My new tv arrived in bits

Got it on a "buy it now" option from a private seller, with no returns allowed. Had been posted in its original box, then treble wrapped in bubblewrap, with newspapers padding out the box within a box. It'd been marked as fragile too.
Anyway. The screens totally wrecked, there's components rattling around inside the tv too. Totally beyond economic repair (in my humble opinion).
The seller has good feedback. Contacted them, they're most apologetic and are putting in a claim against the Royal Mail. Once that is successful I'll be refunded.
A friend at work said to open disputes with paypal and ebay (because there's time limits for those things) and I did that last night. I'm 100% confident it's not the sellers fault and haven't left any feedback so far. The seller does seem to be very helpful, tbh.
I've never had anything go wrong on ebay before, don't have much experience on ebay apart from 40+ relatively inexpensive purchases so far.
Am I and the seller doing everything right here to get this issue resolved ? Is there anything else we should be doing ?

I agree with friend. The seller may be using the waiting for a royal mail claim thing to string you along until the time limit expires and leave you with a broken tv and no money.0

The seller should be refunding you straight away, not when they get refunded by RM, which could take months, and is irrelevant as far as you are concerned. Your friends are right that you shouldn't let the paypal claim time (45 days) slip by but for a SNAD claim they would usually require you to return the TV via a tracked service, which will presumably be expensive. So I would say your best bet is to try and get a refund via seller - keep things friendly, but point out that you shouldn't be made to wait for the refund.:www: :: MFi3 ::

tcr I think the seller should be refunding you and not having to wait for RM claim-thats between them and royal mail. It's their responsibility to follow it up. You only have 45 days for a paypal claim. The main prob with that is that you either have to return the item or get written evidence from an expert in the area that its not as described. I literally had to get a report saying a smashed headlight wasnt much good as a headlight and was beyond economic repair. Paypal dont give you long to get the evidence in once they've asked for it. Think it was about ten days off the top of my head.Saving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j0

Ok, cheers. My friend says I'm totally naive and I suspect that's probably true.
The description did say the telly was nearly new (that particular model is under 6 months old) and it said it was working fine (well it isn't now and won't ever be). But it was sold on a "no returns" basis ... does that mean if it's trashed by Royal Mail too ?
The seller's got 400+ good feedback thingys over the last two years, only one average one (for slow delivery ... during a postal strike), no bad feedback at all.

As people have said, it might be expensive to return tracked, but if you want to see some money back, then that's what you're going to have to do."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

What Royal Mail postage method did he use.
1st class RM parcel post, I think, I wasn't at home when the postie called and had to sign for it at the local delivery office the following day.
Can't emphasise this enough, though, there wasn't a mark on the box ... which I've still got. Haven't the faintest idea how the telly's been damaged, unless it's been dropped from a height and landed perfectly.
My friend says it was knackered anyway, packed, posted and that the seller's totally at it. I'd hope that wasn't the case. He says I should grow a pair of nutsI no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
So all the seller will get from Royal Mail is £41 at best, but thats not your problem.
