What a brilliant result, Ellie:T. How lovely to have so much money that you never missed as you were saving it:)

I'll be checking out your 2016 thread (and catching up on this year's thread too as it's kind of passed me by:o.)

I used to save £2 coins (nice sum mounted up quickly) and 5p pieces (hate the little blighters) back in the day when I always seemed to have surplus money. Sadly, these past few years have been very tight and I've been scrabbling around in my purse to pay for things with every last penny coin. I've felt so embarrassed at the tills on too many occasions to think about:o.

I still have my savings tins so will try to save something in 2016. Even if it doesn't amount to much by next Christmas (certainly not in the hundreds of ££££ like yours) it will be better than nothing. Will only be 20p coins and under but I'm feeling quite elated at the prospect. It doesn't take much:rotfl:

*****Since posting the above I've been over to the various savings challenges and have decided that maybe just the sealed-pot challenge might suit me better so I won't be joining you after all. Good luck if you take on running thethread, well done for being so public-spirited:A. I 'chat' to MrCrimeFiction on another thread and we haven't seen him on there for ages either. I hope he's OK:)

Fingers crossed for your husband's van:beer:
  • Wow that is absolutely fantastic, well done you I hope you enjoy using that money for you and your family!

Right that's it, I'm going to get myself a new sealed pot ready to start for next year.

You should Chrysalis, I've found that I got into the habit and didn't miss that £1 a day. I buy a sealed money box for about 79p and even when I have been skint I'm not tempted to open it.

I've created a new thread under the DFW challenges (Save for Xmas 2016 - £1 a day) and we start saving again on December 1st so we can open our tins on 30th November;)

    Come along and join us

That's an incredible saving! I would be tempted to let the payments carry on and start to build up the emergency fund, can you overpay on the debts when you can?

    Jodles :D

Thank you Jodles, I'm quite pleased with myself at the minute:cool:

I think that's what I'm going to do with my extra money, if I tuck it away in an emergency fund then I can pay off the remaining debts a little before my official DFD. I'm not supposed to overpay on any of my debts as Stepchange look on this as favouring one creditor over another but by the end of 2016 I should only have one (maybe 2) creditors left anyway.

  • Thanks CBC, yes the sealed pot challenge may suit you better at the moment. It is amazing how all the bits and pieces add up, I'm a bit obsessive about trying to save at the moment but sometimes it is very difficult. The first year I did the challenge, I saved one pound each day and it made such a difference at Christmas. Winter is always our worst time of the year and I dread it because OH's work dries up and we have to live on my salary alone.

I do hope Mr CF is ok, he hasn't updated the Xmas thread since August which is a shame as he was really enthusiastic.

Luckily OH's van only required a rubber thingy fitting and the garage didn't charge him...Phew! Our luck is not usually quite so good:o

    Take care

As 2015 draws to a close I am so happy to report that our debt is now down to four figures and stands at £9,376

I've started saving for 2016 and hope to save even more than in 2015.

I'm looking forward to chipping away at the last of our debt throughout 2016 and also most of our defaults drop off throughout the year as well so that's a bonus;)

Been busy with work and ready to start on the out of hours rota, this will make a huge difference to us.

The five and half years we have been on this DMP have flown by and I have learnt so much and I will never get into debt again. I have a brighter future to look forward to and have many plans for when I am finally debt free.

    Take care

  • Brilliant! Under £10,000 must feel so good:T

In March next year I'll be under £30,000 (in the £20,000s;) will sound so good to me) and that day will seem so special to me:j. By then you'll be able to clearly see the chequered flag on the horizon:j

It does CBC and I can't quite believe it

I found once I went under 30k, the numbers seemed to drop down much quicker and I was soon at 20k...I will be here to cheer you on when your turn comes;)

    Hi Ellie

I have stumbled across your diary today and have been totally inspired by your determination and your achievements.

Had a few chuckles at you support from your OH 0/10 2/10 comments :rotfl:
I can totally relate to this. Frustrating at times isn't it

Anyway I have just managed to get under the 30k mark  and want so much to keep it coming down. But you are proof that its achievable and I will be following you on your journey to the finish line.

Well done on getting this far
    Thank you for your inspiration

Thank you so much 12month challenge;)

When I started out with my 46k mountain of debt and a DMP estimated at 11 years, I felt that I would never be free:(

My OH has been less than useless throughout the DMP but I don't let him get me down anymore and battle on regardless:p

I have broken my debts down into smaller chunks throughout so that I would at least feel some sort of achievement as I reached each milestone. Once I reached 30k and ducked under that amount, I found that I appeared to reach my targets much quicker:cool:

Now I'm under 10k and have already shaved off over 4 years from the original time on my DMP. My ultimate target now is to be debt free by the end of 2016 (taking another two months off).

I have lots of targets to aim for throughout 2016 and a huge bonus is that my defaults start to drop off;)

I started off with several CC's with over 6k of debt on each and several more with between 3-4k, plus a 10k loan:eek: - now I have no one debt over 2k and 6 below 1k and I have fully paid the 10k loan...so 1 debt down and 10 to go but those 10 will finish in quick succession:)

It hasn't always been easy (and still isn't) but I am so motivated right now as I reach the final furlong. I feel positive about the future and all the hardship of being on a DMP will have been worth every sacrifice:D

Keep chipping away at the debt 12month challenge, each day is a step closer to your goal;)

    Take care

  • Hi Ellieseleven

My OH also still has his head in the sand and has even said things like "lets go shopping **** it, put it on the card

Not on your Nelly is the reply that goes back ;)

Its laughable that I have to treat him like a child most of the time as we literally would have nothing if it were for him. Even my EF is my little secret. My sealed pot is building slowly too :T

Although he is fully aware of the extent of our debt (I hate that word now) he still leaves it all up to me to deal with. I am happy to do it really because then I know where we're at etc.

Anyway I continue to chip away and am aiming for small targets and get my cards down that way.

You are right about getting the target to under 30k I can see it coming down and I like it :)

You are proof that its doable and I will continue to stick around on here and one day I will be skipping over the finish line

Thank you again for your inspiration :D
