My PC won start just continually reboots. From what I;ve read I need to run chkdsk but can't without my xp disc. My ex has this at hs house and is refusing to send or copy it, although i have the microsoft number on the case of my PC.
I would use torrent, but only have my netbook so can't write anything to disc, can anyone think of a solution that doesn't involve me buying xp again. I dont want to instal windows 7.

There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Buy an original CD off Ebay.
Don't use a torrent, or any other form of download where you don't know the source. There is no way to be sure that you are getting only what you want (e.g. your PC could end up running as part of someone else's botnet).0 -
Hmmm, I don't believe check disk will solve this problem..
Right Click on My Computer
Click Properties
Select the Advanced tab
Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery
Remove the check from the Automatically Restart checkbox
Next time it encounters a problem, it will give you an error message rather than restarting. Write down the error message, restart, and then look up the error message on google or in Microsoft's database.
If you need any help, just pop a message in this thread or send me one.
As for the disc, don't torrent, but if you want to go legal route, Linux might be an option

Which version of XP/brand and model of PC?0 -
Before you go down the route of chkdsk etc, I'd like to suggest troubleshooting it first.
If it's rebooting it could be something like a faulty IDE / SATA controller or bad graphics chipset, hell it could even just be shorting out on the casing
I'd recommend unplugging every single cable and starting it up with only the RAM, CPU, CPU Fan connected and using onboard VGA (if it has one)
