DLA guaranteed until 2014?!

You get more money than those on income support and SDP then. You obviously dont need it then if you are getting your pension. You do have a wife. Many people live on their own and would need to pay someone to help then which is why they need the DLA.
Good grief,
We get £202.40 on Pension Credit - that's it full stop - nothing else!
On IS a couple would get with the Preiums £186.45.
£16 a week less than what I get.
Yes I have a wife if I was single my Pension Credit would go down just the same as IS. The difference single or not is about £16pw!!!
?? what about Social Services - wouldn't they help out???
or are you actually saying that you would prefer to pay someone out of your DLA to look after you?
So where is the Care in the Community then???
Yes we manage on £202.40 and I am disabled, so why would another £121.25 per week make any difference to us?
SO if we can do it, why can't others? You will just have to learn to live off a lot less!
That was the question.
No wonder the current government is having a hard time trying to cut back on benefits if everybody is out there trying to screw the last penny thay can out of the state. Just look at the wider picture man - it can't carry on like this. It will be either reduce your claims voluntarilly or they will do it for you. Hence the reason why the medical in 2014, to weed out those that can manage with a little less income.
Likewise today it was announced that the government want more than 50 % of all IB & ESA claimants looking for work on JSA and off sickness benefits. The next target will be DLA and they will no doubt want another 50% off that benefit as well. We have ourselves to blame for all of this.
It's not rocket science.
If I wanted to be greedy, I would be claiming another £200 pw on top of my Pension Credit of £200
And that brings us right back to the original question posted0 -
the statement I made about you having a wife was not about your combined income but the fact that you and her have each other to assist.
Other people might need that extra DLA so they can pay people to help them shop, get about,or use taxis etc.that was my point. Just because you dont need DLA doesnt mean someone else is like you.what about Social Services - wouldn't they help out???

Huh. Care in the community! Thats a joke. Hypothetically I would prefer to pay someone out of my dla then risk social services intervention and their bumbling incompetence and harrassment. But you have to have personal experience of them to realise how bad they are.
All cases are different. Actually its said often that is a huge amount of unclaimed benefits that people are entitled to but dont claim. If you find something irritating in my post or that you disagree with, then please don't jump on me ,just please ignore my post.I have come to the site for useful information and not to argue. thanks.0 -

Bcause some peoples' disabilities mean that they have very high costs.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

There used to be, the biggest being Pension Credit in fact. Because it only affected the over 60's, they were the least likely to claim.
Gordon Brown saw to that as it was becoming something of a national scandal. How did he do it - quite simple: instead of allowing to back date 12 months he cut it back to 3 months. Thereby at the stroke of a pen, taking back into the Treasury 75% of that money that should have been claimed but wasn't. So the amount is now only 25% of what it was before. Not a bad bit of creative accounting though I say so myself!
I'm waiting for it to be brought into line with IS, you only get it from the day you claim it, or are allowed to have it, if it has to go to a DM or Tribunal.
In other words absolutely 0 backdating. No claim - no pay!!0 -
My DLA pays for (this is not an exhaustive list):
Different food as I'm both lactose and gluten intolerant
Getting decent sunglasses as the tablets I'm on have a side effect of making my eyes VERY sensitive to the sun
My internet, so if I can't go out I can still talk to people
Books/DVDs - these are my main distraction and are very usefull when I'm worked up or stressed or scared
Headphones - outside of my flat I wear headphones nearly all the time, and can get through a few pairs in a short space of time - 4 pairs this year alone.
Making sure I have a first aid kit to hand - I won't explain but it might be obvious
Mobile contract - means I can phone someone if I need to, phone the doctor, phone someone to help me
Electric - so I can run my laptop and keep to my routines - these are all laid down on computer.
I also binge eat, so I do buy extra food, but am ashamed of this
Any extra medication - I buy it as and when and the amounts and types can change (so painkillers, hayfever tablets, etc)
Taxis - so I don't have to rely on public transport which can cause me more stress.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

Does it make any difference if you buy the slightly more expensive ones? I've just bought a pair that have cost me more than my MP3 player, and they're much better than the ones that came with the MP3 player. (I bought a cheape MP3 player; not stupidly expensive earphones)Any extra medication - I buy it as and when and the amounts and types can change (so painkillers, hayfever tablets, etc)
Are you (because of low income or medical condition) entitled to free prescriptions? If so, you can get painkillers and hayfever tablets on prescription. (ditto gluten free food if the can prove it - mine isn't proven so have to pay for my food)Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

No, I've already wrecked three pairs of Skullcandy ones, I'm just hoping the Sennheiser ones last better.
I don't get it on prescription - it isn't proven so I pay for it all.
I get free scripts, but I'm not going to badger the dr every five minutes.
Oh, and i forgot the important one - it pays the extra for renting a 1 bedroom instead of a houseshare...I can't live with other people, they drive me bonkers.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

Have they (and you) been assessed by Social Services ? s47 of the Community Care Act 1989 imposes a duty on the LA to undertake assessments of anyone who is referred to them. This could well help you obtain some respite care which is really important for you to be able to continue looking after them day in day out.
For possibly additional income, I obviously don't know what's wrong with your sons but if they have severe behavioural problems and arrested development of the brain they might be entitled to HRMloves to knit and crochet for others0 -

somebody mentioned care in the community, what a joke, at least where i live, there is no care in this city, it lacks resources. therefore those that are ill, have to struggle and cope alone, or pay for help with our dla money.
i use some of my dla to pay someone to cut the grass, as well as cleaning my house when i'm really ill, and when its the school hols, as i have two disabled children to look after, and cant watch them and do other jobs at the same time, they need attention 24/7
just wish me and my sons were well enough to lead a normal life and not need dla money, i want to go out to work, to socialise with other adultsloves to knit and crochet for others0
