It's not a competition, it doesn't matter what other people your age are doing....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

AJ85, Can I suggest your original post implies you believe under-30s should be renting and over-30s should have a mortgage? As such, the wording encourages those that do not fit this hypothesis to answer, to demonstrate they don't fit your model. Your results will be pretty skewed.
Don't worry too much about the 'property ladder', or achieving milestones like a house purchase by a certain age. There's plenty of us that have bought and lost/sold a house before 30. Those that buy 'late' may be better or worse off than those than buy a first house 'early.' People will move between rented/mortgaged/owned properties throughout their lives, as their desires and finances dictate. We're all going to make bad renting or buying decisions at some point in our lives, but hopefully we'll all learn from our mistakes, or the experience of those that post here.;)0
