Why didn't the OP stop when the alarm went off. Would have avoided all this hassle. It happened to me the other day, so I just froze in place and waited for the security guard.

I was in a hurry, but had nothing to hide, and as loads of people were looking, wanted to get to the bottom of it. Turned out it was a couple of razors (that I'd self scanned) had small electronic tags on them.

Im sorry but I think saying black is no big deal , the man was black?
Things are so much out of hand these days and i know il probably get jumped on here but my son who is 12 an has aspergers got suspended in school as called a little girl brown, as he saw her which is what aspergers is they dont understand like we do.
yet even though diagnosed and under a hospital he got suspended for 3 days ????
so does it really matter black, white ect we are all equal anyway if the man was black then the Op was just discribing him , sorry but i dont see a big deal here

    Crazy isnt it.
Did anyone see that bbc three programme Peckham Finishing School for Girls a few weeks ago?
One BLACK lad shouted as he passed the WHITE girls "I WANNA BEAT DAT WHITEY" (meaning he wanted to make love to her!!)
That was extremely funny according to the BLACK community worker and everyone else from Peckham.
He can it be ok for a black person to call a white preson WHITEY on the BBC but not ok for a white person to call a black person BLACK?
In my book WHITEY is just as offensive as DARKIE, but you will never see that phrase on the bbc unless its on an undercover racist expose.

repeats in a couple of days. Think the one with the racist comments is part 3

Why would you stop if you hadnt stolen anything, surely you wouldn't think it was you that set off the alarm so why stop?

You would stop because you dont have anything to hide and common sense would imply the possiblity that something in your bags could have set off the sensor.

Oh !!!! off. Physically assaulting me is not reasonable force; it was completely unnecessary. The colour of his skin is of no consequence; it was his unnecessary aggressiveness and attitude I took objection to. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Whatever happened to the customer is always right? How many times must those damn alarms go off during a day; I surmise that the majority are because the checkout numpties have forgotten to take the security tag off.

Why should I even bother responding to someone asking a stupid question about whether I'd bought something electrical. More like a consumer survey than a security question. Maybe he should start by telling me who he is for a start. Just because their anti-theft technology does not work properly shouldn't make me be treated like a thief.

Until such time as his friend put a hand on me I was quite happy to have a conversation in transit. After being unnecessarily assaulted that went out of the window. The black guy needs retraining, and if I decide to make a complaint that is how I shall identify him - its the most obvious identifying aspect whereas my perception of thuggishness would be seen as subjective.

No wonder they had to use force if you are using that language to me I dread to think the attitude you would have given over to the security who let's face it were DOING THEIR JOB!!!

Thats why I stopped, I was in a hurry, so running out of the store with the alarms going off would have looked fishy. :D

Quicker to let them see whats in my bag, than have the hassle described by the OP.

Exactly. May be inconvenient but losses through shoplifting is passed on to us, the consumer. Granted people will always find a way to steal things but the presence of security offers would be enough to put most people off, meaning the shop can afford to reduce their prices that little bit extra.

innocent people dont think its them that set alrm off. I wouldnt stop and if anyone put one finger on me they would be on the floor before they knew what happened. Security guards do not need to man handle anyone who is not trying to escape do they.

Your choice, if you don't want to stop.

I did, as I was the only one going through at the time, and assumed that it was something in my bag (which it was).

Exactly my choice. I would probably stop if it was in the middle of the night and no-one else was around but me but during the day when there are people coming and going I would just presume that someone was trying to rob a tagged item from tesco and wouldn't even think about it.
