Halls of Residence Dilemma

thestudentroom.co.uk is where my DD found out about accomodation etc at Canterbury, and she also managed to make friends with 2 of her flatmates online before she started-it really did help her to hit the ground running when she started. They have a section for each university. If he isn't doing this research himself though, I can't really believe he is that bothered about where he will live. My DD was desperate to live in one particular block at Canterbury as she loved the en suite rooms, huge kitchen with table to eat at, they were very new and very close to 'the action'. She was very lucky to get her first choice, but had researched all the alternatives just in case.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

I think his results are worrying him, yes. He'd never admit it though. He does have two conditional offers (the other one being Kingston) and it wouldn't bother him which one he went to. Kingston would be closer to the London venues he likes to visit.. This may be making him prevaricate.
If he does spectacularly badly, he says he will go into clearing and if he fails, he says he'll go to New Zealand (he has dual citizenship so this would be a go'er).
He's a man with a plan alright. I don't want to rain on his parade but I do want to keep his feet on the ground if I can. (It's that control freakery I'm so good at again)
I actually go to Kingston uni myself! Kingston is much more expensive to live, the standard price for halls is 99 pw self-catered sharing a bathroom, or 105 ensuite, but the halls are excellent and it's a very student friendly self contained little place. Student lets the following years often tend to be 85-105pw exc bills. The cost of living is so much more expensive that you can't afford to go into central London that often, it became a once a month "treat" for a day or night out for me and a lot of my friends. A lot of indie/rock bands who play in London will also do a cheap student night in Kingston and there's a night out for everyone.
Kingston are extremely generous with their offers from what friends have told me who got in with DDD when they were offered BCC. I initially had a clearing place at another London uni which meant living in Mile End, but Kingston is the nicest place in London to go to uni imo
edit! not sure where you live, but if the cost was a bit of a bother it's not that unusual for people to commute from guildford, reading etc and in the last year it's very common and practical.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Hi Adelight,
We live in Essex so much closer to Mile End than Kingston, but I commute into London and the annual ticket is £3640 so probably cheaper for him to live on site at Kingston than commute.
I really hope he gets the results for Portsmouth..."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0
