....A large sheet over a few chairs inside or out makes a good tent and a picnic in it is more exciting than lunch at the table. I was talking with friends the other day about the games we used to play as children, two balls against the wall with a rhyme, elastics and skipping. Maybe introducing children to these would help to keep the bordom away for a bit as they may be a novelty these days or maybe I am completely out of touch and they wouldn't want to know in which case feel free to ignore me.
Hand on heart, I was only thinking the other day about all the games we used to play. I was crash hot at 1-2-Upsy-Daisy on the two-ball, & usually ended up as a post for french skipping..& do you remember nicking your mum's stocking & shoving a tennis ball in the toe, to make one of those things to swing around your ankle or bang side to side against the wallAll the end walls around here have huge No Ball Games signs & the occupants scream obscenities if the kids dare disturb a blade of grass on their lawn  ...assuming there IS a front garden cuz 98% have disappeared under a "draif" [wunna them fings yer park yer jamjar on :rotfl:]

Thats a shame. We used to play it anywhere there was a sare bit of wall. Front or back of house, Anywhere you could. I know it would be annoying if there was continuous banging on your house wall but really, people should remember that they were kids once.
I can't remember the rhymes now, but probably would come back to mind if someone quoted them all.

My kids used to play in front of next doors house because our car was always parked outside ours. Our neighbour never complained even when the ball went into their garden. Suppose we were lucky. It never occurred to me to move the car or that the neighbour might not be happy about it. A few years before it was other kids who were coming into our garden to collect their ball. It was just what kids did. Would hate to have the neighbours who complain about the blade of grass being touched . lolSecond purse £101/100

I don't think many of the people in our street had a car that was worth worrying about! Lots of the dads round us worked shifts, so we were quite often asked to be quiet because someone had either just got in from nights or was having a kip before they had to leave for work. Most of us were in the same boat, so it was no big deal.0

Unfortunately, I have those neighbours and additionally the person opposite me has a dropped kerb opposite where our raised one is, so the kids need to play a wee bit up. The older neighbours, and I hate to say it, but it is them specifically, have started a petition and gone to our MSP to ask for fencing. Never mind its ugly, a maintainence nightmare, and a waste of the HA resources. The biggest joke is they all have plain grass front gardens about half the size of mine, which is planted all along the kerbside, and the ball is always bouncing in to mine from football games, kids walking along, and people who let their dogs pee on the lamp post which is right next to the edge of my garden near the plants! I am very much live and let live, but I really dont want this. The MSP sent us out a questionnaire out asking our opinions, and I made it quite clear to him I think its a waste of time and money, not to mention unsightyl, our wee street is a new build and looks lovely open plan the way it is, and I don't see the need for a fence, at all. Sorry rant over, I really don't mean to moan all the time, honest! :rotfl:It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

It's really nice to hear good news!:o and gives me more hope of my DH finding a job... I don't know how I will cope if it takes months it's putting a huge strain on us emotionally already and while I enjoy money saving it seems to take up my every waking moment now, I can't tune out from the money worries. It's not a nice way to live! How to other people deal with the worries?
On a better note, DH is in my good books for picking up 20 rolls for 27p today in the reductions so my freezer looks nice and full even if it is only full of bread! Plus we had a nice crop of homegrown strawberries today and some lovely cherry tomatoes. :jMFW 2015 so far..... £1808.702014 - £1451 2013 - £1600 2012 - £4145 2011 - £5715 2010 - £3258:)
