Mrs and Mr Frugalista, very glad to hear your good news. I imagine it has restored your husband's confidence too, as he was effectively head-hunted.

Enjoy whatever celebration you had/will have

Not able to sleep so here I am, catching up with you all.

Good to see that the Frugalistas are having some good luck onthe job front. It'll be an inspiration to those of you looking for work.

I'm so glad I've retired from the rat race ( a rat always wins it) but feel so sorry for the younger ones who will have to work so hard for so long.

Please, if you wouldn't mind? I used to make it for DD when she was little but haven't tried it for DS yet as he just tries to eat everything but might give it a go during the summer hols. Thanks in advance :)

Yet another lurker here, i've been reading this thread since the beginning and most of the old thread too but never posted before. Not sure i have anything intelligent to add but hey lol

I'm 25, DH is 31 and we have 2 kids plus baby due in March. Not sure if i fit in here or not as things haven't changed too dramatically for us other than noticing the rising cost of things, DH's job is as safe as a job can be in the current climate and i'm a SAHM so we've always just had the one wage. I'm still trying to cut back and watch the pennies though as you never know whats round the corner and i'd feel better if we had some money behind us just in case.

Congratulations Frugalista on Mr's new job :j

    Take care all

Good morning everyone. Lilmisskk, I'm a bit of a lurker too, and we are comfortably off compared with some folk on here, but we do have huge debts (caused by life events, easy access to credit, rising costs of living, extending loans and lines of credit which eventually ran out......usual story, plus a healthy dose of our own stupidity, some unwise spending decisions, chickens well and truly home to roost etc). The debts are being paid off gradually with an IVA, so we have to stick to a strict budget. My problem is my OH is an Ebay addict and keeps buying stuff - some good, birthday presents etc, but some unnecessary. At least he is having to pay for it out of his own money and not on credit because we can't get credit any more, so that's a good thing! I do all the budgeting, the cost cutting, the meal planning etc, and we manage to get by each month. I think that things will become more difficult over the next year or two, what with pay freezes, rise in VAT, child benefit freeze as well as the never ending rising of prices in the shops. Consequently when I am not at work I spend time on here getting hints and tips on cutting costs yet still maintaining some kind of quality of life. I find little things very satisfying - the batch of strawberry vodka on the go on the windowsill, the two jars of rhubarb compote I made the other day with some reduced price rhubarb, the overflowing pots of salad veg on the patio, the first raspberries coming through in the garden, the eggs our chicken lays.....I could go on for ever. I would not want to go back to a spendthrift lifestyle for anything.

    Hi and welcome!

The nice thing about this thread is that EVERYONE fits in:T so don't feel awkward. Some people (like me) are lucky enough to be able to choose to be frugal (in my case to pay off my mortgage asap) for others it is a case of need. I have never seen anyone unwelcomed or deemed a misfit, whatever their circumstances

    So post away!!:D

Hi Lilmisskitkat, I'm also fortunate in that I don't feel the pinch as much as some people on here. I really do feel for those who are barely managing to survive (or worse) due to rising costs. My OHs job is stable and mine is assured until next March (university research already funded) but I'm partly planning "just in case".

I tend to think of OS as also being about fighting the appalling waste culture we seem to have as well as money though. I can't believe how much food/clothes/stuff we throw away in this country. It's an old cliche but there are people starving in other countries as we happily chuck stuff in the bin. People have lost touch with food completely, they don't understand when it actually goes off (don't get me started on use by dates, esp cheese), and they seem to think cooking is some magical art they can't possibly understand, when in reality a few stock cubes, toms and onions will get you a long long way. The ideas on here to stretch food and other things I find very inspirational and really makes me appreciate what I have. I'm not claiming to be a saint, I like a few home comforts but I just want to try and do my bit where I can and not be so wasteful. I will shut up now and get off my soapbox :rotfl:
