  • Helping out in schools, either voluntarily or paid support staff, is blimmin hard work and I take my hat off to all the lunchtime supervisors, TAs and helpers that do a fantastic job on or near NMW!

Went to the haberdashery counter on the market and also tried dunelm but couldn't get buttons for the school cardis. I will try ebay - although I can't actually SEE them then...
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

    Hypnotherapy rocks :j
  • Havnt posted for a few days as was rather ill with an upset tum although there was wine involved. Have had a thrifty day today. Not used the car and walked to local shops and dropped off stuff at the charity shop but bought a fab new dressing gown, a new Per Una top with a £23 price tag and another M & S top all for £10. Went to local market and my little girl got 3 books for £2 so both happy. Then spent an hour in the local park.

Getting moved to a different office in work but dont where yet as there are "accommadation issues". Hope the issues dont mean Iam relocating to the Job Centre.

Making rissotto for tea, S,burys have recipe cards for free. Will make lots then Ive got dinners for work too!
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round
  • Congratulations gailey and ()s to anyone who's lost good friends or much loved pets.

My little piece of good news is that DS's tech teacher has very kindly mended his broken chanter and done a beautiful job too - real craftsmanship - so do not now have to replace it - it was his piping teacher who suggested trying this first - altho I do think DS needs to buy himself one asap so that we can return the borrowed one before any more harm befalls it. Altho he's now been lent a full set of pipes...

Oh and I got a nearly 6lb chicken reduced to £2.59 in the co yesterday, so at 1/4 oz per person (like kezlou's mince!) that works out at 84 meals?! Will try for half a dozen!
    Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)

....no one knows what is around the corner. A wealthy man can lose his wealth, a loving husband can be a betrayer, a wonderful soul mate can die leaving you to raise your child/children alone (mine did 18 years ago).

Many women like myself are raising children alone in poverty, or pretty darn near it...because our partners/husbands have died, because of divorce etc....
Ultimately, as long as you are content with your lot in life....our mission to be good stewards of the earth....I'm not sure i have made any/much sense in this post....
You have made a LOT of sense, & writit far more betterer than I cudda :D Perhaps those numpties who insist that everyone on any kind of benefit is a fraud, should consider that bit I've underlined before spouting their caustic venom  For years now I've hoped that the term 'single parent' could be supplemented with more compassionate titles such as 'deserted spouse' as I for one, was married to the man who fathered my children & for several years before No1 arrived come to that.

Similarly with the jobs. I strongly believe that no-one's job is any more or less important than another. We need shelf stackers to put the food out for us to buy; we need sales assistants to make the transactions accessible; we need refuse collectors to keep the streets clean; we need doctors to keep us well but as important are the nurses to keep watch over the doctors treatment plans. It's about time the Powers That [want to] Be recognised the very big contribution those teeny tiny cogs make in keeping the wheels of civilised living turning, & levelled the divide twix boardrooms & binmen.

I think my position is somewhere down the middle here. I have two adult children and have never regretted them. I thoroughly enjoyed their childhood and am great friends now with one although have regrettably lost touch with the other (not my doing) which is a source of great pain.
However, if I were to do it again, I don't think I would have children. In fact, I don't think I would get married. Perhaps that means I am selfish - or perhaps it is because I now have a better understanding of the world and would be reluctant to add to the population. This is a personal point of view and I would never expect others to conform to my ideas.
Ain't hindsight a balooga :o I well recall looking at those kiddies in supermarkets & restaurants before I had my own, thinking "mine won't get away with that!" And those people who--however well meaning & attempting to be helpful--offer advice on something of which they have no first hand knowledge....You have to make a choice on the options available at a given moment in time & pray that you've made the right decision; that's all any of us can do. One of my mum's favourite sayings is "If I'd known then what I know now" which doesn't actually help at all :p

Anyhoo, poota appears to be having a sensible five minutes for a change but I'll not push my luck by hanging around any longer so TTFN

    Haha, sounds like me/mine! :rotfl:

I remember putting a few granules of popping candy in my 3rd one's mouth when he was about 7 or 8 months old, just to see what his reaction would be! I felt that it would be a good experience for him. His face showed surprise and puzzlement, but ultimately pleasure. I'd do it again!

Just want to thank everyone for their condolences. Puss is now safely tucked up in her bed under one of her favourite spots with some crunchies to see her on her way.

  • The words said about me helping at school are probably the only positive ones I've heard! Friends I've made through school think I'm mad but I'm looking forward to helping out. The school have had to let go teaching assistants this year due to budget cuts and they approached me to help as they see that OH and I want to be involved in the boys school lives. I had the chance at uni to do my post grad but for various reasons (I used to be married 10 years ago) I didnt, so I have spent time in schools. so far the plan is to be a reading buddy to year 1 and 2 one day a week and a toast lady one day - 13 loaves of bread to be toasted by first break - oh the glamour!!

Both of my boys were given home made pureed food, but admittedly their first taste was chocolate, either a choc button or sucking the choc of a biscuit, you cant beat it
    Mum, wife and dinnerlady!
  • Good for you, Lindy - Loo, I have a friend who now works at the school after years of volunteering there. Our school simply couldn't function properly if it wasn't for the amount of classroom support from parents. I really admire people who can dedicate themselves like this.
