charlies-aunt. Delighted for you that your daughter has done so well. One of the better moments of being a parent when your child has such a great success. So much hangs on these results now. Growing older does have its disadvantages but it makes me very grateful that this is one part of youth, with its modern day stresses and anxieties, I have no desire to revisit!

Well it seems my Local Allotment Group appears to be very biased over who it gives allotments too, I currently share my mums allotment but have put in a application in April, my mums next door neighbour applied in june, got hers 3 weeks later, her son applied last week and has been offered one already as there was no one else waiting and there are 5 that have been given up due to ill health in the last month.

I rang the lady who runs the group only to be told they let on suitability rather than first come first served basis and that I am number 35 on the list. She denies that there are allotments available but promptly hung up after i reeled off the people who were given allotments before me and the names of the people who had handed theirs back in and where are these other 34 people when an applicant of only 1 week has been offered a plot?

There is a meeting for allotment owners every 2 months so we might go en masse to raise the question.

They are amazing results - what time are you on TV? think we get look north on our ITV1.

Your daughter has done herself proud xx

I think it is on about 6.20-ish after the National 6 o'clock news. . . . my daughters name is Ghislaine Fowler and she had a blue tshirt on.

:rotfl: I wish that I had known in advance that it might happen as I went in standard 'mums' kit of baggy shirt and trousers, no makeup and hair just brushed not styled so I expect to be arrested by the fashion police later today :rotfl:

Still got a big daft grin on ! :):)

  • Very many congratulations Ghislane (what a lovely name!) and of course, Charlies-aunt. Superb grades, and in tough old subjects too!

Good luck to Mr Gailey as well!

Had more news ex-London from Mum. Dad was a lot more competent today, stayed with the world a little bit more than he did yesterday when he was away with the fairies quite a lot. Virologist spoke to Mum today and explained the infection needs attacking with at least 3 weeks of intravenous broad spectrum antibiotics. (!!) We are currently in discussions as to whether this means Mum staying with Sister for 3 weeks, or if they can organise transfer to their local hopsital for latter couple of weeks. Not sure yet.

Also, managed to source a wheelchair for Dad to use when he is better so he and Mum can go out and about more easily. Bargain at £100 when RRP is £400-£500. Church crowd is brilliant source of this kind of bargain. :)

crickett1234 - you seem to have been successful in finding a wheelchair, but for anybody needing something like this, local branches of the Red Cross often hire them out or sometimes loan them out free of charge.
  • That's very annoying and unfair lauren 1, I would be seething in your position. Well done with those FAB A'level results charlies aunt.

Thank you my more conservative looking father (same surname as me) and a family friend (quite a posh bit of toffee ) is going to apply and see what happens, my mum seems to think she is just rather snobby as she has made is clear there is no waiting list to other allotment tenants as asking them if they knew anyone who wanted a allotment!
