I saw Dad in the hospital yesterday and I was so upset when I saw him. He was very confused and not really aware of where he was or anything. But today, the news is better. He has encephalitis (we thought it was meningitis yesterday!) and although it is serious, it is not as serious. The prognosis is good. But it could take up to 3 weeks to get better. I don't care, as long as I get the bad tempered old git I know as my Dad back.
Thanks for all your support and good wishes; they have meant a lot to me and my family.
Cor - I'd be one dead daughter on the spot if I called my father a "bad tempered old git":D - but glad to hear that things are looking promising for yours.

He doesn't know I call him that, and I CERTAINLY wouldn't say that to his face!
(But I speak truth!! He IS a bad tempered old Git. He's just MY bad tempered old git. I love him to bits. Hi everybody, I've not posted for a few days but been keeping up with you all.
Done a lot of shopping today; Lidls then costco and finally Morrisons. Well stocked up on a few things now and I've done a rough meal plan for main meals from what I bought. Know this is the wrong way round, but wanted to see what was there and look for bargains etc.
Bought two packs of turkey mince from Morrisons and some soya, thought I could do them all together in the slow cooker and make a lasagne and chilli with some for freezer as well. I am hoping no one notices the soya.
My problem is still the amount of fruit we get through and other fresh stuff like milk and bread. Only have an under the counter fridge and although I have a tall freezer, it is full. I spent £16.72 on fruit alone today and I know that I will be buying more apples, oranges and bananas before the weeks out. £3.49 of that was on a big box of strawberries from Costco as a treat and will probably last us three days and I don't tend to buy cakes and biscuits unless we are having guests or going on a picnic.
I have always tended to go shopping whenever needed and usually a bottle of milk turns into £30 spend.
Since following this thread I have built up quite a stock of things in the bedroom, but now I'm not sure whether I should be using these up before I go out and buy more, or maintain stock for possible bad winter/price increases.Second purse £101/100

notjustlaura wrote: »Lindy - Loo - I used to work with Cats Protection and have given pills and potions to many, many cats. Here's how to do it:
* Crush pill.
* Mix powder with a little Dairylea (supermarket own-brand is fine)
* Offer to cat on your finger. Usually the cat will lick it off. If not, smear the paste on an easy-to-reach bit of fur and leave the cat to wash off.
Pills can also be crushed and mixed into a paste of water and tuna paste then sucked into a syringe (no needle!) and squirted into the cat's mouth if it's too sick to eat/wash. There's a knack to doing this but it's not hard.
Have fun and let me know how you get on.
thanks for the advice, we tried the cheese spread, Dixie having non of it but Izzie thought she had died and gone to cat heaven after being allowed some out of the tub!
In the end we had to tilt her and make her swallow - she now hates us so tomorrow we try the tuna! one tablet down, 11 to go...Mum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -
More leaks about cuts, this time child benefit and fuel allowance. When will it end I ask?0

I have found our vets trick of popping the pill down followed by a squirt of water from syringe works ok, as our cats are notorious for appearing to swallow it then we find them all stashed behind the sofa!! The water forces them to swallow at least!!0 -
Hi everybody. Not posted on here for a while but catch up with reading all the posts everyday.
Starting to feel very stressed with my business again.
Trade is so slow that I've not even taken enough to cover half of the rent let alone cover any of the other expenses. Next month I am going to have to dip into my ever dwindling savings to pay the rent etc.
Find it easier to tell all of you on here this than my family etc as don't want to worry them. Am seiously going to have to consider what I do to protect my future.
On a positive note I have a good store cupboard & full freezer that would keep me going for a few weeks.
Made a loaf in breadmaker & cooked a bacon joint this afternoon. Had some of the bacon joint for tea & it will make some nice sandwiches for lunches for the next few days.0 -
Sorry about the business TudorRose. The only thing I can say is be careful about putting more money in if you aren't sure it will pick up. The only shops around here which are busy are the cheapy stores as far as I can tell.0

What an exciting day!!
DD2 gets her "A" level resuls tomorrow and today she has been contacted by the colleges publicity department to ask her permission to be filmed by the BBC opening her results and to do an interview with a reporter!
The footage will be shown on local news channel tomorrow evening ....with the proviso that if she gets disappointing results, they won't use any footage of her blubbing
She was selected to represent the college because they see her ais a 'good' student . . . but - does this mean the college already know that she has achieved her predicted grades ? ? ? ?
Hope you don't think I'm bragging but DD2 was diagnosed with global developmental delay at 3 and started school with a Statement of Special Needs so getting her as far as "A" levels is an achievement beyond our wildest dreams:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Hello Charlies Aunt I never post on here but I am an avid lurker, but have to say I certainly dont think you are bragging, your daughter has worked hard and over come some difficulties in her education and you are just doing what every parent would do in the circumstances - letting us know how proud you are of her achievements. In this day and age it is great to hear of young ones doing well, and I sincerely hope she has the grades she expects and wish her well for the future.Every days a School day!0
