It's STILL tough and not getting better - so how are we coping?

Have found out how to stop OH from adding to the shopping.
I went to Aldi today and asked OH to come to help carry the bags. We aimed to come back on the bus using OAP passes. As we went round he kept seeing things we were running out of, but wouldn't buy them as he would have to carry the bags!0 -
If DH or DS want to go supermarket shopping with me I tell them I am buying female things and need some time to mull over the prices. That works quite well. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -

....talked DH into buying a new superking size [bed]....
but this is definitely one of those times when size matters
....I find it very hard to feel sorry for anyone who has lived the millionaire lifestyle and has now fallen flat on their backsides. It is only caused through greed and stupidity
....an awful lot of these people were living way beyond their means....We have lived through a time where the world and his wife seemed to think that money was free - well not anymore. And who is paying or all this? You and me, people who try their best to live quietly and sensibibly.
I am so cross as because of all this debt....All our years of living within our means has meant nothing, we are paying the price for someones plasma telly and fortnight in Thailand.
I'm sorry, I try so hard not to get angry. I just feel cheated and abandoned sometimes, like its my fault that we didn't get into debt. If we had, I would probably be better off now....[Thankfully the treatment has helped stave off the worst of her condition & she has retained some vision]
The company wanted to lend me a lot more than I was asking but I had no need. OK..I could have got a new/er car & we could have had two weeks somewhere exotic, but I would have then spent the next five years struggling every month to meet the repayments & in MY book, it just wasn't worth it.
So that is why I have very little sympathy with those who were foolish enough to want the moon on a stick & want it now, when all the while they should have admired from afar & enjoyed their day-dreams. All they have now are nightmares & balooga-else, as designer labels of any description won't keep food on the table or a roof over your head.

Just to say I have a superking sized bed and get all my bedding from Christie outlet shops. There are ones in Castleford and the York outlet so there must be others all over the place. You can get some great bargains there. I recently got a dark blue embroidered set for £20 (quilt cover & 2 pillowcases).0

I have an apple tree and a pear tree in my garden, but the apples always seem to be 'got at' by something, there is a tiny hole and it is brown right through in a line from the hole, so not sure about eating them. They are only really good for cooking with and I have taken some and cut round the brown but it is a bit of putting as I think it's some kind of grub. Also, with the pears, they are rock hard and then all of a sudden they turn to mush with no in between ripe period, so most of them are wasted. I really want to make better use of them this year. We spend a lot of money on fruit as DS eats loads and hubby has apple, orange, banana and maybe melon and grapes each day. I like to make sure we have at least our five portion fruit/veg, so try to keep stocked up but could do with some cheaper options.
I buy mostly frozen veg as seems to be cheaper and less waste, but always buy fresh carrots and onions. I did try to grow some onions and leeks last year but wasn't successful. Also tried tomatoes, for three years now, but they didn't taste of anything which was very disappointing as was looking forward to wonderful taste. Think it was lack of sun, up here in North West, had really bad summers for last few years. Did potatoes in old dustbin and bucket but tbh seemed to be cheaper to buy them than the amount that I got back, although was very excited at growing my own. Everyone seems to say that even with a little patio you can grow your own, but find that with compost, and feed and cost of seeds plus time, it doesn't seem to be worth it.Second purse £101/100

It won't taste quite the same because Nutella's made from hazel nuts.
My Supermarket (co.uk) says @sda has Nutella for £1 per 400g sized container instead of the usual £1.78 elsewhere.0
