I don't know how many people have seen the following article splashed across the front page of the Daily Scarepress:

    http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/191014/Food-prices-set-to-soar

I'd heard that there was an increase in wheat prices coming down the pike on the radio this morning.

As any coeliac will tell you, wheat flour is in just about everything from a pork pie to a Lloyd Grossman sauce. As I may have mentioned before, the people in the town where I live seem to exist entirely on a diet of chocolate biscuits. This price rise is going to crucify them.

The only response is to panic buy and stockpile. And not just wheat flour. I think it will also affect the prices of pea flour (aka gram flour), potato flour, rice flour, maize flour (aka polento or cornmeal)etc.

This could be enough to tip the economy over the edge.

More information on commodity price rises. It has more detail than the Express article.

Coffee has spiked? This will crucify me.
and strong rises in the global price of other commodities such as palm oil, cocoa and soya oil.

So I won't be using soya oil, then. And margarine, soap, and chocolate are going to be more expensive, too.

    More panic buying.

Im torn is tough issue . Is it just me but does anyone find the new housing ministers name quite cool grant schnappes sounds like asuperhero, very catchy doubt anyone forget his name.

Grant Shapps is the Welwyn and Hatfield MP and I for one think he is great. He is working very hard to save out local hospital from more closures. In the last election Labour promised us here a 'super' hospital in Hatfield but when they didn't get in all these planes were abandoned and they then declared that they were closing the QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City.:mad::mad:

My inlaws came round today and we went to look for a wooden playhouse for my little girl. They wanted to buy her something for her birthday and Christmas combined as her birthday is 6 days before christmas and she does get a lot. They also wanted to get her something she could enjoy and use. She doesn't need anymore toys, clothes or furniture so they wanted to get her a playhouse. They actually found one that she loved and have bought it for her. Should be with us in 5 weeks. Now we have to clear a space in the garden. They are lovely and really help us out a lot. :A

Fingers crossed for all those who have job interviews. smiley-gen013.gif

Thank you Thrilla for the info, its good for us all to know whats going to affect us unlike others who play at ostriches then empty the supermarket shelves. I think the agricultural world needs to rethink its crops and adjust them to match the changing climate - NOW - not after the government spends 10 million on a think tank 2 years down the line. God help the poor farmers whilst the supermarkets will be making a killing.

Im thinking of starting a self help group locally to find if there are any open minds round here, the local library will let me have a room, just got to do a planner and see how I would run the idea.

Good luck to those with job interviews, any job is a start, as we all know its easier to get another job when you are in employment. My Ds started his new job Monday and is doing ok with the training tests, he is going to use it as a springboard for the job he really wants with better hours/pay/benefits - thats my boy. I was headhunted several times in 2007/8 and could move around at will. Am glad I am retired now because its hell out there!

Morag, thank you so much. The website is brilliant. I found so many cheap and easy meals in the meal planner. I am not vegetarian but my daughter and parter(who does not live here, but sometimes eats here) are both veggies. It is much easier to have all veggie food in the house. I am so looking forward to the veggie version, but for now can still pick out enough good ideas.

Hello :) You might be pleased to hear that Weezl's vegetarian planner is now live. A few of us are having a go at it this month, if you'd like to join in, hop over to the How much you've saved forum, Weezl's Phase 3 thread and say hello :j

OMG, the world has gone mad.
We will make do and go without certain things if we have to. I have quite a stock of soap and coffee which will last us quite a while.
    What next?
