The purple top milk is 1% fat in Morrisons and Asda or 0.75% fat in Tesco who are also currently doing it for 50p I can't really tell the difference between that and semi skimmed. We used to use UHT most of the time because we only really have milk in hot drinks but the offers on the purple top milk have made it cheaper per litre than the UHT stuff! I still have UHT in the cupboard for emergencies though.
I'm feeling a bit annoyed as we're visiting the in-laws including DH's grandparents this week as it's his grandad's birthday, I'd bought a card and already had a recycled bottle bag for his gift (just need to buy the wine) but I then went and left the card and bottle bag at home when we set off this morning and can't go back for it so need to buy another card. I think I wont bother with a bottle bag as they'd just throw it away (which wouldn't bother me too much with one I was given and just recycling but I'm not paying for one he'll just throw out!) I'm thoroughly annoyed at needing to buy a second card but we can just use the one I had bought next year or when it's his other grandad's birthday.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Try Ebay for local pick-up only items - I've had quite a few items where my 99p bid is the only one and I've won the item. I also know a few people who are disillusioned with Freegle who do 99p pick-up items instead. Their reasoning being that if you are desperate you will be looking, if you are just a free-loader you won't.0

Thanks Thriftmonster. Hi Jo, hope we're not making you feel homesick!! Am definitely getting a trolley now cos I've just come home and yes I did get carried away plus it's pouring rain here all morning! I also got more loo rolls, drinking chocolate, sugar and other dried bits and bobs. Got myself a nice big bag of dulse, which is a form of seaweed but supposed to be good for you. it's also supposed to be an aphrodisiac!! Oo-er!! it'll be wasted on me then!!!0

Just read about the coming winter and my god does it look bad. I know that were currently going through a period of global dimming and a combination of volcanic ash it looks like a bad winter for us again. So i'm going to stock up on dried milk and dried foods again like last years. Its quite cold here today, very unusual for august, its 15oC brrr.
Where did you read about that Kezlou? I remembr reading about low solar activity being responsible for the harshness of last winter, but I haven't read anything since, so I didn't know that we were due another one. Oh wow congratulations wee jo!!!!! thats amazing !!!!
Oh no it wasn't from the thread on here. I watched a documentary about it last year on the discovery channel and Patrick Moore was talking about it on the sky at night around about the same time.
Apparently the volcanic ash stops as much as sunlight filtering through which for us, near the north pole means colder, harsher winters. this conbined with global dimming, not a good combination.
The same thing happened during the middle ages and the French Revolution. Volcano eruption in Iceland, meant poor growth all over Europe.
Just hope another volcanic eruption doesn't happen.0 -
indded we have shopped around. A man hit us last year. No claim was made as there was no damage however as we told the insurers they have it on DH record now so its actually gone up around 100% or about £300Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0 -
gailey a good recipe for cabbage is Harry Potter soup. We love it.
1 big onion
1 big carrot
1 garlic clove
olive oil - chop everything up and fry until browned
1/4 cabbage, fineley shredded - add to pot
1 litre of water - stir in.
1 tin of tomatoes - stir in and season. Simmer until the veggies are nearly tender.
2 handfuls pasta - stir in and when they are cooked add
1 tin beans.
At least I think that's the recipe. Things tend to get chucked in at this house. Make sure you don't add the beans until one minute before you want to eat it or they will dissolve.0
