My former SIL works in 1 of the big 4 supermarketsand knows that I clear their basic curry sauce out every couple of weeks. One day whilst in the middle of doing this she came along with a colleague and laughingly said "she's the reason we have to keep stocking the shelves with all the cheap stuff". I was totally mortified and then my temper overtook me and I loudly replied "if your brother would pay for his kids I wouldn't be buying the cheapest of the cheap"!! I walked out of the shop in tears. It was a really !!!!!y retort but I refuse to let people belittle me when I'm doing the best I can in the circumstances as we all are!!
What your ex-SiL said was horrible, Icelandic Queen! I would have said something similar and I definitely would have cried too.LBM 04/05/10 :T DEBT FREE 30/07/10 :j I made it!CHALLENGES: 0 bought lunches June or JulyAug SoL: 15/21 June NSDs: 11/14 July NSDs 12/11 :j Aug NSDs: 5/12 Savings target: £500/50000 -
hi all, hope you dont me joining, im kind of a lerker, newbie to all this and an ocassional poster.
im still learning and have a long way to go i guess. my family seem clueless and give me odd looks and question me as to why i seperate my shopping out to pay with different money, esp when i explain things like food and cleaning items come out of food purse, pet food for cat at mums out of different 'purse', deoderants, shampoo etc out of another 'purse/account'.
it hard anyway i find, but i have splurges out of these on utter crap, but i will stop and learn.
esp with my own place to keep, bills to pay.
I did consider using different purses and jars.
If we have a jar of change or any change lurking in hallway it just goes on impulse buying.
Already raided jackets and pockets, handbags for additional money is nice surprise when you find money.
Never seem to find money on floor these days.
I remmember in comp me and mate would collect change off floor and always find enough for freezepop.
Trying to keep monthly grocery bill to 200 amonth including household and toilitries but some months its a struggle normally as hubbys impulsive and our nearest supermarket quite pricey.
Spent 5.18 today on white vinigar for chuitneys, reduced loaf of bread 55p, cheese big block 2quid on offer, value choc mouse which has gone up from 26p to 35p plus 4pint milk 1.53 is 1.09 in lidls.
Fiver does not go far at all.:(
right best go mad dash tidy and cook dinner as hubby and stepson home soon.
Northwest stepsons 12 and very fussy over homemade as he lives on takeaways and readymeals at home, his mum works in asda.
icelandic queen-sounds awful some people so insensitive.
I always thourght 4pcurry sauce was a myth as never managed to find any.But in all honesty basics and value range must be popular as always seem to be offsale. Some days i ghave lots of value and reduced in basket plus cashier can take ages to put reduced labels through.
welcome newbie lurkings to our random os waffling.:)pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

Hi G, Gaelic is being brought back from the brink of death. They have gaelic nursery schools now & its spoken a lot more up in the islands. It's a very sad story really - very like the native american one. The people were not allowed to speak it and schools tried to stamp it out. Then the next generation grew up feeling ashamed of it and not using it. Now that has come full circle and they are trying to keep it alive. It's a totally different culture up there and so sad that people should be made to feel ashamed of their own language.
I do think it sounds like a cat fight though. LOL!0 -
OK sewing my lips up as I type !0

Another lurkee here.
I would second the recommendation for Farmf00ds toilet roll. My OH has thing about thin toilet roll - something gross about his fingers going through which is TMI
- however Farmf00ds meets his requirments in this area :rotfl:
I'm currently looking for a new gas cooker. Mine died several months ago. Thing is that I've got the money saved up, I know which one I want (found it with cashback on Quidco too) but I just can't bear to spend the money on it - especially when we're eating salad all the time0 -

I have tried and tested all sorts, from andrex to lidls to tesco value. The winner by far is the brand they sell in Farmf00ds, 9 decent quality thick and quilted for 2.00 for 9, so that makes them around 22p each.
Give them a go, I think they are great (especially when DH comes around, he eats it instead of using it for the intended purpose methinks).:rotfl:
Agreed Skint Lynne, they are Nicky loo rolls. I think they are by far the best value ones around. I try not to spend more than a £1 for 4 decent loo rolls so these are perfect.Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
Hmph! So many different answers about loo roll. Don't get to Farmfoods very often but might try to remember to try theirs when I do go. Think on the whole, seeing as I only get one pack of value ones every couple of weeks, and no-ones complained about it, i may as well stick with that.Second purse £101/100

Thanks Skint Lynne - I should check out farmfoods for cheaper loo roll then as there's one about 1/2 a mile away. I used to go as a student, and some stuff was good, but their value burgers shrank to half the size and were almost entirely fat, yuck!Old-Style Enthusiast :j0
