OMG not a full jar coffee in every jar:eek:will be looking very closly next time shopping and staff thinking me nuts for turning them all upside down.

Hey if I get half a dozen cups more I am happy :rotfl:
I been noticing rises in lots of basic and own brand goods in sainsburys latly was gutted when bog roll rose by 23p.
Noticed few other things hubby thourght I lost the plot but occasionally buy odd jar pasta or curry sauce sainsburys own brand was 85p fab price as reall chunky peaces anyway they relaunched it as great value 1pound. Iceland do same people phychologically see everythinsg rounded up to quid and think they getting bargain when in fact its less product or more expensive than it was before.

As ex supermarket manager they have something called price establishment period they have to raise price of item sell at that price before so long before they can then say its on sale or offer much of its a con.
I guess in asdas case never worked for them but they constantly rolling back prices my bet is lots rolled foward then rolled back again quite frequently.

Makes me angry and some folks fall for it
I have a fake louis vuiton bag from corfu was 15quid everytime I use it people think its real and im rich find it ammusing.
I do like certain brands for kids but buy 2nd hand off ebay, carboots occasionally sales and outlet village.

    live a lotto for a little:D

I have a Gucci one that draws admiring glances and I didn't even pay for it. It was a stocking filler pressie off DD.

Mardartha random scottish related question as other day they were discussing on andrew marr how bbc could save money and wondered how popular bbc alba is do many speak gailic up there.

im from south wales and speak very bad welsh , north wales they fluent so guess s4c some benefit .Mma used to watch poblycwm with subtitles then tell me to turn telly up but most welsh programming was strange smurfs in welsh even weirder.

I always thought Gaelic was three ways of clearing your throat.:rotfl:

Just thought I would pop in for a moment.
I am now back working so don't get much time to come in here(small home based business).
We are still trying to help the kids through uni.
DD has a part time job this summer hol to pay for her rent when she goes back, she can manage on her grant but is worried about the student finance coming in too late (some people's grants were very late last year).
Today was a day off for me so I spent it in mending the big tool box we salvaged from the rubbish . It only needed some screws in place of the catch to make the lid stay shut and is a lovely big box that we can fit all my soldering bits and pieces and the dremel into.
Amazingly, hubby has been very good when I have been madly busy and has sorted food, shopping and washing up which has helped hugely.
The veg garden sadly has had to take a back seat as with two people working full time, there is little time to get out and weed etc.

I did see a tip on 1 of the other threads, it you flatten the roll and then put on the holder it stops the kids pulling loads off.

I’ve been trying to catch up with this thread before posting but it was something of a fighting a losing battle! I’ve been reading the forums on and off for a few years now and go through phases of being really good with watching the pennies but then I slip up, I stop paying attention to spending and I end up back to the point where the days before payday I’m in the red or barely in the black. I can’t do it anymore. Having lurked on threads for so long I do recognise names and know bits about people, feels a bit stalkerish but is true!

We’re not in a terrible situation at the moment, my husband has a “permanent” job for the first time in 3 years and has been working there for nearly a year so things are good on that front though his company relies on government funding so we’ll see what happens in October. My job is as safe as any can be as I work for the council but I’m on one of the lowest grades and my hopes of being re-graded (I do way more than I should) have just been shattered today so I’m feeling pretty down about that. I’m now thinking I really need to get saving so that if Mr Lambanana’s job goes following the next round of cuts we can afford to live and I need to be more solid with what’s left every month for that to be a possibility. We could just about pay the bills on my wages alone but only just and some things would have to go.

Another reason to get solidly in the black and clear the credit card (which has a small balance compared to some and is at a reasonably low APR but obviously as with any credit card would be better without a balance!) is that we are with the many people on here who are renting their own homes. I’d love to buy but don’t want to put us in trouble to do so. Our current plan is to get saving and save as much as possible so we have a big deposit, preferably 20% or over so we can have a slightly smaller mortgage and get it paid off as quickly as possible so we have a home. We’re only young and many years from retirement and are both happy to save for 3 or 4 years before buying if it means owning a larger chunk of the home from the beginning. Obviously this can’t really start until the CC is paid off but we’ll get there.

It does feel really hard sometimes. I know we could be in a much worse situation but that was only vaguely comforting when I realised that I have £11 to last until pay day and I don’t get paid until 16th August. Fortunately that’s just my account (we have individual bank accounts but a joint one for bills which we contribute to proportionately based on our wages) so I can get more money from my husband to cover things but it still feels rubbish, I want to have my own spending money left at the end of the month for once!

I had a big and unexpected bill earlier this month so am hoping next month wont be so bad but my car is due road tax (fortunately “only” £30 as it’s an eco-friendly one) and a service in September so I must be careful so I can pay for that upfront when it comes.

I am hopeful things will be good but dreading what the next few months will bring, I do really feel for everyone who is being hit so hard by this government because it’s so unfair, those who earn the least are really carrying the majority of the burden.

Can understand how you feel at your friend's comments Kezlou. My former SIL works in 1 of the big 4 supermarketsand knows that I clear their basic curry sauce out every couple of weeks. One day whilst in the middle of doing this she came along with a colleague and laughingly said "she's the reason we have to keep stocking the shelves with all the cheap stuff". I was totally mortified and then my temper overtook me and I loudly replied "if your brother would pay for his kids I wouldn't be buying the cheapest of the cheap"!! I walked out of the shop in tears. It was a really !!!!!y retort but I refuse to let people belittle me when I'm doing the best I can in the circumstances as we all are!!

hi all, hope you dont me joining, im kind of a lerker, newbie to all this and an ocassional poster.
im still learning and have a long way to go i guess. my family seem clueless and give me odd looks and question me as to why i seperate my shopping out to pay with different money, esp when i explain things like food and cleaning items come out of food purse, pet food for cat at mums out of different 'purse', deoderants, shampoo etc out of another 'purse/account'.
it hard anyway i find, but i have splurges out of these on utter crap, but i will stop and learn.
esp with my own place to keep, bills to pay.
