Ooops! Didn't realise onions were bad for dogs, my dog is always eating leftovers with onions in and it's never had any effect on him. Then again, my mum is constantly sharing her chocolate with him too so he doesn't have the best dog diet out there! Still, he's 12 years old now and doing well so it must be quite individual to the dog.

Nope, onions and theobromine found in chocolate are toxic to all dogs - it is likely that when dogs appear to be fine after eating them, it is just that the amoints they have eaten are too small relative to their bodyweight to show any obvious effects. Beware with onions though, the effect is cumulative, so feeding a small amount regularly can be as dangerous as giving a lot all at once.

When my youngest golden was a pup (still living with the breeder) he managed to unlock the cage, let all the other puppies out and was up on the table polishing off a bucket of champagne truffles, wrappers and all...
