My dog loves eating leftover meat, which I nearly always season with onions, salt, garlic, etc, and is very healthy for his age.

My old dog once ate an entire easter supply of chocolates. I didn't know it was poisonous then so was much more laid back than I would be now - no effect on him at all, not even a dodgy tummy.

That dog has a stomach of steel though - apart from the 2kg bag of dried pasta, the only thing that had an effect on his bowels.

Here are symptoms to be aware of http://dogs.suite101.com/article.cfm/onion_toxicity_in_dogs although most articles seem to feel that small to medium amounts of onion are not usually a problem.

Thanks everybody, they're both still absolutely fine. I think I did just panic but i've calmed down now.

And yep they definitely said "a couple of hundred pounds" to which I said £200, really?? REALLY?? :o :rotfl:

I'm totally blaming my mums dog for this :rotfl: she eats anything and everything, she ate the corner off my old sky card before I got it off her, I didn't even know we had an old sky card :rotfl: She ate a receipt last week, good job we didn't need to take the clothes back! :rotfl:

I'm only surprised she didn't eat the wrapper off the sandwich but it's probably just that I found them before she had chance! :rotfl:

Leading your poor little angel astray. Shocking. ;)
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I thought onions were suppose to have a laxative effect on dogs? My brother in his widsom once fed my poor dog a couple of onion rings. When she went to toilet it was like a high speed catapult going off.

My friends dog once ate a ten pound note...Isn't that illegal or something?! lol

I have to admit I didnt know that onion was bad for dogs! My mums old dog used to have onion gravy on his dinner sometimes if we were having it with our dinner!

My boys have stuffed left over spag bol with onions, well to be honest they have eaten the meat and left the onions neatly on the side of the plate. I dont think they are that hazardous to be honest.

However, chocolate - my sisters cross whippet ate an easter egg once and ended up on a drip at the vets :(

I am not saying do not take them to the vets but............. my ex's black lab who is nine years old is a serial bin emptier. And he eats ALL that is in the bin including wrappings. He has eaten grapes and went into the kids tent last summer and ate a family pack of Mars Bars, bag of frozen peas block of cheese, 6 tomato, dried pasta garlic onion and the only thing he could not eat was the pasta sauce which was in a jar. He had the squirts for a week but had no ill effects.

He does this sort of thing quite often, perhaps he is just lucky.

It was probably more likely to have been the batter and oil than the onions.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
