My LO is currently on SMA first but she struggles to get her wind up and we have to wind her for ages as she is so uncomfy so I'm thinking of trying another formula so I was wondering which formula you use/used and why?

Hi, used SMA with my first but the second, it did not agree with him so used ordinary cow & gate which was much better. There is one specifically designed for wind/colic/upset tummies which you can get from the supermarkets but it costs more than the standard tins, about £11 I think, still a cow & gate brand. And I think it has "comfort" in the title.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

I used Aptamil because when I was nannying for a paediatrician it was the one that she used on her own babies. I tried it with an open mind, because what works for one baby, my not work for another, but as it turns out it was brilliant for my baby too.0

Just a thought, but feeding styles, winding technique, and rest time after a baby's feed all affect how the baby will manage to digest the feed.0

I use Hipp Organic (have used it since Farley's was discontinued). It's one of the cheaper ones:D (but never any problems with it). Number 4 will be getting that as well (unless they have problems on it, of course).Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

Aptamil also do a comfort milk to help with wind/colic.
Ours was on Aptamil first milk and now he's moved on to their hungry baby milk because hes a right greedy thingWealth is not measured by currency0 -
I used Farleys for DD, that was 8yrs ago, dont think they do it anymore! That was because i was bf'ing but got mastitis which lead to a flare up of my FM and my mam had to rush out and get bottles and milk and thats what she picked up. DD was fine on it, moved onto the hungry baby milk quite quickly though.
For DS i used Aptamil when i stopped bf'ing as it was recommended by the HV. Never had any problems with it, he never had colic and moved onto the hungry baby milk a month before weaning so not too early. I'll definitely try that brand first next time but every baby is different and what might suit on may not suit another.
A lot of people have said their babies had problems with SMA though.

aptamil breastmilk substitute here. Suppose I bought into the claims that it's the best breast milk replacement (whether it is or not I'm not sure - but to be honest, when I reached the end of my rope with breast feeding not working at 6am one morning and found myself in Tesco, rationality went out of the window and advert claims stuck!). Either way, it agrees with my two week old son so far so we've stuck with it. The midwife also seemed happy that we'd chosen that brand so I guess there must be something to the claims.0

I chose Aptimil due to the claims "closest to breastmilk" as I was hoping to continue breastfeeding but baby needed a top up and I had to choose something. I am not sure in what way it is closest to breastmilk and I don't really believe it is any better than the others, but her poos were more like breastmilk poos if you know what I mean. Very runny and Korma coloured and didn't smell too bad.
I really think you need to try them yourself though as you can't go by the experience of others. If SMA was as bad as some people claim, it wouldn't have been around for so long and sell as much as it does!0 -
I used sma for my first two suited them fine then with bubs i tried the aptamil which was good but after some recommendations i tried the hipp but it didnt suit him so back on the aptamil then once he was eating solids and only needed follow on milk we tried the hipp again and he has been fine on it still has it now :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0
