No idea what happened to that last post yesterday! Bizarre!!
I just said that I haven't earned anywhere near that this year, I was working 2 jobs last year to save enough to allow me to give up work at Christmas. The woman was quite snotty with me too, I don't think she believed that I hadn't any kind of benefits or whatever coming in!?
Our wedding isn't 'til 14.07.10, only just realised that it was two years to go the other day! Whoops! I'm a bad bride to be!
:D We're not organising very much at the minute, mostly because we don't have any money!
We'll wait 'til we get some savings together, then next summer I'll blitz it! How are your plans coming along?
xx
You will get 50% wage in August for sure. Have you any relevant previous experience? I know councils have tightened this up but they may bump you a point up the scale after your probation year if you have relevant experience. Hopefully post-probation jobs will improve too.Debt Free thanks to MSE!!!! £15,000 debt became £0 thanks to some hard work and all you lovely people!0 -
Hi Partickz!
I remember when you first joined MSE - well done on getting rid of all that debt! Must be a great feeling to finally be free of it!
Yeah you're right, I'll defo get at least a half wage in August, which should give me enough to keep me ticking over for that month, although probably not much more than that!
I know some councils so put you up ont he pay scale, I don't think my previous experience is really strong enough though! Although, I'll just be delighted to actually get a job - even if it's just supply! That's really what's panicking me. The plan was to save as much as possible in this incoming year so that I havd something to fall back on if I'm out of work for a while, but now that I've managed to accrue more debt, that's not likely to happen!
We'll see how it progresses though......

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Feeling full of the joys today, had a lovely long weekend (It was a public hol here in Glasgow yesterday!), and I'm back to doing just afternoons in work - not good from a money point of view, but defo very good for my sanity!
Moneywise it was a bit mixed at the weekend. I managed not to spend anything, but then, I didn't do anything about making any extra either!
OH's friends decided to come for an overnight stay at the last minute on Saturday. It's the first I've met them and they were lovely! Although we ended up making them dinner (and supplying their booze
) since they're OH's friends he paid for the food. Plus - added bonus, we're going to Norfolk for a couple of days camping in a few weeks time, and they've offered to let us stay over at theirs on the way down, which saves a massive headache and also the cost of an overnight stay the night before! :money::D
My teaching registration fee cam out today - £60 down without even leaving the house - it's quite a talent I have!
However, my mum did give me back the £30 I'd paid her for an overnight in her caravan so I suppose it's swings and roundabouts!
Tried to call my old employer AGAIN to sort out this tax situation, but the lady's phone is set not to receive calls! I'll try again later!
Anyways - that's all I have to update on the money front! So I'd best go get organised for work I suppose!
Catch ye all laters!

Well hopefully job situation will improve. They have cut the numbers training and some councils are offering early retirements.
Yeah it is a good feeling to be debt free but it is thanks to my family and reading diaries on here. Also claiming back some excessive charges/PPI from banks and most importantly by becoming a TIGHT beep with money. The thought of spending money for a drink at work disgusts me. I freeze tap water in the fridge and drink it next day.
I have went crazy with not spending. Debt Free thanks to MSE!!!! £15,000 debt became £0 thanks to some hard work and all you lovely people!0 -
Yay!!! I am now in full possession of my P11D form (***Does a little victory dance***) - now all I have to do is send it to the taxman and hope I'm actually due something back!
On another point, I've just remembered about a 3rd party car insurance policy I had a few years back. I took it out in the September (I think), wrote the car off in the November, then took out a company car which I had to insure myself, the company I was with wouldn't cover the car as I wasn't the registered owner, but as there was another car involved in the accident who were making a claim against me, they said I couldn't cancel the policy. the only option was to pay the remaining balance, and then claim the over payment back once the other party's claim was settled. I did that, also requested to be kept informed as to what happened with the claim, and promptly forgot all about it. That was in 2006, and I've heard nothing since - I wonder if it's worth contacting them now?

Lol - yeah it can become quite addictive! I have to admit, I've let things slide a little over the last year or so. I've defo not gone back to my more extravagant self, but there are definitely times I've spent money that didn't need spending! The only thing I've never really been able to sacrifice is my social life, so that's now my biggest outgoing - I suppose I do need to do something about it, but the thought of it depresses me!
Are you a teacher yourself Partickz?
xx0 -
No but my gf and mum are both teachers. I would love to be a teacher though my job has given me various promotions and pay rises over the last 9months so it less attractive financially especially with uncertainty over jobs. I love my job though.Debt Free thanks to MSE!!!! £15,000 debt became £0 thanks to some hard work and all you lovely people!0

That's good if you enjoy what you do! It is such a big risk to re-train, for me it was worth it because I hated what I was doing, so I'm hoping that even if I'm not successful in getting a teaching job, just having the qualification might lead to something better!
I suppose it's always something you could do in the future if your job changes, or if the teaching situation improves!0 -
Well, another day, but unfortunately not another dollar! - Well unless you count the ones flying out of my purse!

I get paid tomorrow - but unfortunately, every penny of it is accounted for. I've 2 hen-do's to pay for, a parking ticket, an overnight stay for this weekend......... and the list goes on!
There are 12 of us going away for an overnight on Saturday, but we're going to the "Wigwams" in Tyndrum, so it's working out £14 a head. The plan has always been to take food and have a BBQ, but there's now talk of sacking that idea and going to the pub if the rain doesn't stay off - so fingers crossed the weather stays ok! Really can't afford to be eating and drinking out!
The Merchant City festival is on tomorrow night, my mates are all going out for a curry then to the pub for some drinks. I've been pretty strong (I find it so difficult to refuse the chance of going out), and said we're not going for food, but we'll meet them afterwards. PLanning to take the car and drink diet coke! Fingers crossed nothing nasty crops up!
Anyways - hope you're all having a greta day!

Yeah some of my gf mates now teach overseas... Italy, Canada and Australia I believe. My MiL is a DHT Primary and says her authority is moving towards a "BVT" scheme which should improve the situation post probation. Not sure if this is just her authority.Debt Free thanks to MSE!!!! £15,000 debt became £0 thanks to some hard work and all you lovely people!0
