Yes, these are Research Machines PC's as used in schools (I believe without looking into this, that these used to be Viglen as owned by Alan Sugar). They were probably either part exchanged against new computers, factory repairs or leased.
I personally wouldnt touch them. If you've ever actually supervised a class of kids using these things (I have, a fair few times!), you'll understand. While you may say 'oh but they only get 5 hours use a day where a home computer has been used 24/7', don't massively exagerate it - home computers are probably used about the same. And, school PCs often have users purposefully trying to destroy them.
Its a false economy if you think this will save you money. It may, but you're just as likely to have a PC that goes faulty very quickly.
You'll also need to get yourself an XP Pro disc!DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society

What could be wrong with them that wouldn't surface within 30 days?
I'm looking for a machine to evaluate Windows Vista - this would appear to be ideal. Can I help?0 -
RM are for schools, but these will not have been used in a school. As a previous poster mentioned, no school will dispose of machines with this spec. And as the lack of hard drive space will show, these were meant as a network client (where the need for a HDD is for OS only).
Probably a good buy for the price, but they are going to be factory returns.0 -

Original post one doesn't have the first three on your list either, they have removed the 15" lcd to make it £40 cheaper. Obviously not going as fast as they want and think the small screen is putting folks off.ac's lovechild0
