My Laptop wont update

Please could anyone shed some light on this frustrating problem?!

Our 3yr old Toshiba laptop has tried installing updates before shutdown about four times now, but it justs stops at "installing 1 of 10"
I've left it overnight and come back to the same message.

It runs on Windows Vista, and last night it started to install 13 updates. And failed. Again.

help!

  • suggest at least you uncheck the first update and see if the others can install...

    Have you checked for malware?

What is the model number of the laptop?

    Sorry - what's malware?

    Model number is PSL40E - 02R00NEN.

Have looked into what the updates are; it's mainly vista updates.

Download, install, update and then run a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes' AntiMalware(it's a link). When the scan has completed, choose 'Remove Selected'. Reboot the computer, re-open the program, go to the Logs tab, open the log file just created and post it here.

Try installing each update individually rather than all at once. At least if you do do them that way, it should become apparent which update has been problematic and you can start to troubleshoot from there.

Thanks, I shall do that as soon as the laptop gets over it's latest hissy fit and reconnects to the internet...

I'm also concerned that you have only 1GB RAM installed, unless you have upgraded since buying.

  • RAM is memory, hard drive is different.
