If you cancel sky you will revert to the free channels (a bit like freeview but without E4, more 4 and a few others - you still get BBC 1, 2, 3 &4, ITV1, 2, 3 & 4, channel 4, five etc...) You don't need an ariel as it still runs through sky box!0

Is 2 operations not classed as critical illness then ??
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

no afraid not it has to be heart attack, cancer etc and apparantley ive just found out the drs have to give you a prognosis of less than twelve months to live with the cancer (that was in very very small print) so think we will have to review that and maybe just keep life????? the thing is i know what will happen if we cancel......if i did cancel have i lost the premiums already paid???

What deal is your mortgage on? Some mortgages allow payment holidays, so basically if you could take your payment holiday over the few months your husband will be out of work then resume paying ASAP it might be worth checking out?? Or if not can you revert it to paying interest only for a few months to tide you over. Not ideal I no but better than getting in arrears the bank are getting what they need you are just not paying any capital off for a few mths..
Also if you cancel sky and your dentist and chip £200 off you shopping bill you are saving £222 which is basically covering your car payment. Good Luck0 -

second_chance wrote:not sure about sky contract think i can cancel anytime but i have no tv ariel so would need to sort that...i can change broadband contract do you know who does the cheapest??im currently wireless have no idea if that affects anything or not!!
Hi
I think you have to be in a contract with Sky for 12 months or pay in the region of £150 for the box and dish, after this time you can receive the very basic package for free (FreeSat it's called) this link will explain it better than me http://www.bbc.co.uk/digital/tv/tv_nonsubs.shtml
If you have your Sky dish having no ariel will not be a problem.
I changed my broadband from BT to AOL Silver, less than half the price of BT. I'm sure there must be cheaper about but I wouldn't know who to recommend. Not sure about wireless I'm afraid, I wouldn't be able to answer that point.

According to my calcs you have £119.08 per week to spend on food, clothes, going out, leisure etc. without overspending further; and that is with your current income.
Assuming dh loses income this drops to -£90.02 (nb minus). So you would be insolvent unless serious cutbacks were implemented. I'm not sure of your detailed circumstances, but the items which stand out are:
Car- can this be sold?
Nursery- can dh look after the children?
dh accident and insurance and pension- can these be put on hold?
If these figures are applied the weekly figure rises £53.31 per week. Therefore to eat you need to make this up to at least £100 per week. This would have to be from dh or your otime or another source eg other benefits.
My final figures are as follows:
income weekly monthly
self 1500.00
partner 250.00
pension
child ben 70.00
TC 41.00

Hi second chance,
I just wanted to say please, please, please don't cancel your life or critical illness cover. I know other posters have suggested it as a means of saving money but these policies would provide you with either a lump sum or an income should the worst happen. Sure, feel free to shop around to see if you can get the same cover or better at a lower cost but don't cancel your existing cover until the new policy is in force. It would be false economy to cancel these policies and leave your family wide open to an even worse scenario should the worse happen. (have you guessed that I work in financial services?
)
Hoping everything works out well for you,
