I thought this programme was total crap..lets be honest here if this lad was applying for the job off his own back he probably wouldnt of even got an interview due to fact loads other people in area whom arent tattooed, skin head, out of work for several years would of been in a better position to get interview. defo think having camera crew following them around helped this lad get interview. That said well done to the lad for getting back into work all be it huge amount of help that not everyone unemployed will get.

I enjoyed the programme. It illustrated the fact that people are trapped on benefits, and the loss of self-confidence that goes with that situation. It also emphasised the importance of allitude, dress, presentation and the willingness to change.

    However the web site states:

How it worksThere are two types of Jobseeker's Allowance, 'contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance' and 'income-based Jobseeker's Allowance'.

    Contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance
Jobcentre Plus can pay this for up to 182 days. It’s based on how much National Insurance you have paid in the last two tax years. Generally, self-employed contributions will not help you qualify for contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.

Paid in the last two years..We are in the financial year 2010-2011 so it should then be 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 giving my enough Class 1
That is how HMRC work their years and how 99% of the world do it.. from 01.04.08-31.03.09
That is what I am having an issue with.
No one can explain why they are using different years to everyone else. Another question for the MP I hope as I do not understand it.

The trouble is that claiming is based on the benefit year (starting on first January) and contributions are based on tax years (starting in April)
You aren't the only person to have trouble with the concept, which was mentioned on here.

Even if it starts on the first of jan I was working by Feb so that would still be all of 2008 and 2009 then ?

What really annoyed me about the programme was the fact she had 1 yoghurt in the fridge, no money, yet they fed 2 dogs:eek:

You'd rather they let the dogs starve? I'd live off value beans on toast once a day before I gave up my dogs.

I wouldnt take on 2 dogs if I couldnt feed myself and my child properly. I guess its all about priorities

I didn't realise they had a child, but now that they own the dogs they are their responsibility and its better that they are making sacrifices to look after them than dumping them like so many do. I presume the child is still fed well and its the adults going without? I have no issue with that.

Feeding most dogs needn't be all that expensive, unless you've got a Great Dane or a Mastiff or insist on feeding only organic costly stuff.

Thing is , you don't know how long they have had the dogs. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and will be damned if I give them up. Had them all more years then I can remember and it is not their fault I am in this situation.
However I don't have a kid to feed so slightly different.

This has nothing to do with my debts, the figure of £470 is not with anything else included. That is for council tax, mortgage, electric/gas, water, food and the car for hubby to get to work.
we lost 1k per month overnight so it is not like we built up debt never expecting to pay it back. I have worked but due to some wonder of modern rules based on tax years I do not qualify for anything.
That has nothing to do with paying my debts back that is about living pure and simple.
I don't expect anyone to pay my debts but do expect what I worked for.
I am not able to pay for a haircut debts or not as the amount I am short is nothing to do with that.
I was hoping that my MP could help me get my mortgage company to talk to me about the homeowners support scheme but guess I was wrong.
I really can't see anyway around it and there is no support or help.

Or to put it another way
    Income: 1199.94 per month
    Mortgage:741.00 per month
    Gas:45.00
    Electric:45.00
    Water:25.00
    Petrol :100.00
    council tax :94.00
    TV,Broadband,phone:22.00
    Insurance:54.00

So all that comes to £1126
£73 left to buy food for a month, dentist, life insurance, pet food, etc etc
See the problem I am having, and no where does the debt come into it.

Sorry I think I also sound harsher then I mean but it annoyed me when you thought I was after money from the state to pay off what I owe.
Oh and don't forget that I still have to get to sign on twice a month with no money to pay for that either.
I worked from 11.02.08 at the same place but as the JSA is taking tax year ending 05.04.08 and 05.04.09 I get nothing even though we are now in tax year 2010-2011
So to my mind it should be 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 as my tax years thus giving me all the Class 1 I need.

Does that explain why I am so annoyed with it all ?
