More hugs Benben for you, your mum & your dad. Hope he hasn't got diabetes - it's quite challenging trying to watch what they can eat. More so I guess considering your dad's memory problems. (My dad developed diabetes with his cancer and it is still very new to us).

Thankyou Dangers, I spoke to mum earlier and she sounds so down, I honestly think she could happily just walk away :(:(

We will be going round there tomorrow once we've got ds new trainers, she needs support. Its just horrible knowing its all going to get even harder for them, not better :o

Could she get another week of respite care for your dad? Sounds like she could really do with a break. Do you think she will be able to manage him at home for much longer?

He seems to have had a bad few weeks recently, they do tend to suddenly [STRIKE]detiriorate[/STRIKE] get worse ;), then they stabilise, pick up for a bit and then get worse again ... hopefully he'll improve a bit again soon although its always only a temporary thing. Tbh I don't think he'll be able to live at home much longer, she can't carry on like this much more. There aren't many options though, the care home is £1k per week ...  and they wonder why people get into debt??

Your mum needs to speak to Social Services and see if she could get any financial help towards your dad's care if he went into a home. Luckily for us, FIL managed to get continued health care, otherwise it would have been a nightmare. For us, Social Services were involved because FIL was in hospital following a stroke. Unfortunately she will probably not find it an easy task.

  • BenBen, I'm sorry to hear your dad in on the decline - hope you can support your mum throuogh this time. I think it is disgusting that people have to fight to get help, and use their hard earnt money when they have paid into the health service during their working lives.

Hope something comes up for them both and you

Morning all, the 101 challenge site has finally been mended, so I can get back over there and upadte where appropriate :)

I feel really tired still this morning, not helped by ds waking up at 6.30 :o

So today, a train ride and new trainers shopping with ds, going round to see mum and dad, and generally trying not to spend too much money again. Have fun all !!
