  • Region free=bootleg, right?

    Why? .................
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • I emailed the seller, he gave me a price. Hit the "buy it now" on the listing, then sent funds through PayPal "transfer funds".
I think he was asking how did you know the amount in sterling to pay, before you hit the BIN. I'm curious about this also.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

If you are searching from ebay UK then even items listed in another currency on a foreign ebay database will show the estimated amount in sterling. Using paypal makes it even easier..if an item is listed in a foreign currency then you just pay the foreign amount but paypal debit you in sterling. For items listed on ebay UK but being sent from overseas you pay the sterling amount nayway as that is how it will be listed.

  • Hi, You are right Soolin (as ever). The buy it now price showed in uk £ but the postage didn't. I roughly worked it out and emailed seller for required amount.
He has replied overnight with the following reply
    Thanks for your purchase.

The total of this DVD set is 33 USD including shipping cost and insurance.

Sorry my Paypal can't receive payment for now, can you plz try to pay me via Moneybookers? It is very safe and convenient just like Paypal, and it is super cheap to send the money ( 1 EURO Fees for less 500 EUR ).and it guarantees the 100% safe transaction for all buyers. For more details, you can visit its website:

Beside Moneybookers, BANK TRANSFER, Western Union, Moneygram are all ok for me. and they are fast and not difficult to use, so you can also think about using most convenient one of them.

I just want to do a safe and smooth transaction with you and you can check i am a reliable seller in Ebay. So if there is any other question, plz let me know, we can work it out together.

I am now a little concerned, he seems to be unable to accept paypal which was listed as his number 1 payment method. Does anyone know of these other suggested payment methods? Would i better off emailing to say I will pay by paypal only as this was my original plan.

    Any help always appreciated.

Ooh...paypal suddenly not working is a big no no. This is the biggest scam going...reel you in with the promise of paypal then suddenly suggest an unsafe method instead.

Regardless of the feedback I wouldn't do it, for a start if you had to do a paypal claim you would get the full amount back including post and packing, if you have to rely on an ebay claim you only get item cost back and will lose the p and p automatically, and be charged an additional £15 for the privilege.

Personally I would be ultra polite and explain that you are quite happy to wait for the paypal account to be fixed..and leave it at that. If the seller is genuine he should have the paypal acocunt up and running again in a few days and won't mind waiting, if it is a hijack he will probably run a mile.

    Soo

Edit, looking at the email you got I am inclined to think this is a hijack. He is offering Western Union for a start which is banned on ebay and will mean you have no comeback at all if you have problems.

  • I have followed your advice Soolin, politely said to him "I am happy to wait until he can accept paypal payments".
    Let's see what happens now.

Sorry steve, didn't get what you meant at first. I emailed him for a total price including postage.

For currency conversions, this is what I use.

They will be bootlegs, Asian fakes pressed onto cheap media.

Ebay is flooded with them, quality varies.
  • The only thing I've bought from ebay china is a SD memory card hehe.
