Children, and playing in the street

Ok, just a conversation I've had with my Mum recently
Are children louder now than they were years ago or is it just me?
The children playing in my street sound like they are being murdered sometimes, and screaming at the top of their lungs. I know if I had made that noise in the street I would have been dragged inside :rotfl:

On a more serious note, if I hear someone screaming, I don't even get up to look now. At my old house, someone was yelling, and I didn't look until it carried on for more than a few minutes, neither did anyone else. When I got up, there was a child hanging from a second floor window, and she fell out was I ran over, landed on the patio and broke her leg

I think what I am saying is, if (and it's not just children!) people make that level of noise, and screaming and shouting, if anything did happen and someone was shouting for help, they wouldn't even be noticed

Or is this whole post just me?!

Where I live a girl was savagely murdered by a deviant. She screamed. People heard her screams but said that nowadays they're so used to hearing people screaming that they don't bother looking outside any more as it's 'normal'.

It is much, much worse these days.

You live in Blackpool. If anything screaming and shouting would be a step up.

Actually I keep reading how kids are always sitting around playing on their pc or games console getting obese. There are supposedly less playing outside.

I hear kids playing and squealing and think it's quite nice. I can usually tell the difference between an excited 'chase me you're on it' squeal to a 'my god I'm getting murdered' scream.

Perhaps it the more recent trend to ignore screams and 'mind one's own business' that should concern us more.

I love the children play out on my street. The are a nice bunch of kids, also far better they are outside playing than sat on the sofa all the time.

Or the trend to moan about kids. That's something I don't remember from years back and I've spent more time as a childless adult than an adult with kids.
  • I don't think they are getting any louder. Your tolerance might be declining perhaps?

I always go out if a house alarm goes off, especially if it is the middle of the night to check on our neighbours.

When the children are screaming I will look up and check on it, but won't go outside, as I figure the parents will go, as they are all of an age where they can't be home alone.

What does frustrate me is when my neighbours children play on our front grass. I don't let my children walk on other people's lawns and I get very frustrated when sticks are brandished and jousting competitions begin by my treasured tree.

Perhap that is because years ago children weren't allowed to be so noisy, were called in if they got too loud, and were taught to be considerate towards others.

It is nice to hear children playing outside, but not when their noise drowns out anything you are trying to listen to or watch.

Again, there must be a happy medium between kids shrieking and screaming or sitting at their computer or play station all the time. Also, is there no time in the evening when parents feel that it is time for their children to play quietly? e.g no kicking footballs around on the road at 10.00 pm say?
It never seems to be outside their own home I notice.
