Mobile Phones stolen
Anyone any advice?
Sold 2 phones to Envirophone - received an email from them to say Freepost envelope had been delivered open and the phones were missing. Wife sent the phones without proof of posting
Envirophone said they would send out a claim form to me against the Royal Mail
Any thoughts how this might turn out. The money £38 was my daughter's
Thanks in advance

Why?
I suspect it may be long and drawn out, lesson for the future?0 -
if you have the receipt from the post office you should be able to claim from royal mail easily since it was lost in their care.
However I'm pretty sure that any refund from royal mail is a set amount which is something like £26. e.g if you loose something in the post worth £6 you get £6, if you loose something in the post worth £66 you get £26.0 -
Quote from the Royal Mail website:For lost or damaged items that have an intrinsic value, with proof of posting with Royal Mail (such as a certificate of posting) and proof of value (such as an invoice or receipt) customers will be entitled to a postage refund plus compensation for actual loss up to the value of the item, or 100 x 1st class stamps at the first weight step, whichever is the lowest;
A first class stamp is currently 41p, so the maximum compensation you can receive on a standard service is currently £41. However IIRC if you post something over £41 in value, you don't get a cheque for £41, you get 100 1st class stamps. As the value here is £38 that won't be an issue.
Note it says you need proof of postage and proof of value.
kcwild: It was freepost so there is no receipt. I think this is just a hard lesson learnt to get proof of postage next time.0 -
It wouldnt make any difference even if you had the reciept from the post office, standard post and recorded delivery compensation doesnt cover mobile phones0
