I'm sure someone can find the thread, there is a mse'r on here who's grandchild was having an awful time at school, and with lots of advice she did the home schooling for her gc.

good luck with this, I have no experience but have read lots on here about those who have and do, and it is very possible.

Fang really if you ready the op's original post you would of seen this...

he made a reputation for himself in his first yaer at secondry school and has by far improved from this

just made it a bit bigger for you just in case you didn't notice it.

Oh I noticed it, and saw through it. My sympathy is with the children whose education has been disrupted by the OP's son.

As someone who has just left school I'd advise against homeschooling. I know quite a few people from my own school who either joined after being homeschooled or left to be homeschooled.

In both cases there were social/life issues caused by homeschooling that you need to be in a school environment to learn. The person joining took awhile to adjust and was considered to be a bit weird for quite a few years. The people leaving lacked proper interaction with other people their own age (although this was partly because they lived in the countryside quite far away from people of similar ages.).

From an academic point of view do you honestly believe that you are better than teachers who are specialists in their own subject area? It is possible you are but it is far more likely that you aren't and will do your child a disservice as they fall behind academically.

I assume when you say that your child has made a name for himself that this is atleast partly to do with discipline? If so taking him away from school so there is nobody outside of the family to discipline him is surely not going to improve things later on in life?

I have encountered a few home educated people and in my opinion, not one has been a well balanced individual. Home education takes away the most important lesson people learn at school, and that is how to act/communicate with their peers. If this post can stop just one person being home educated, and it ruining their life, then it has been a well worth while thread!

ha ha you are joking aren't you?

OP ignore this person and others like him. How on earth can they make such random judgements I do not know. Next thing you'll have somebody telling you all kids leave school as well balanced individuals.

School works for lots of kids - homeschooling works for lots too. It is a decision only you, your son and other people dear to you should make. Just, don't let anybody here (or indeed anywhere else) who has no experience of it, tell you it can't be done or that it will 'ruin a life'. What utter rubbish.

Some of the ignorance here is gobsmacking.

She doesn't need to be an expert in anything.

I'm glad you're considering this. Not just for your son, but for the rest of the children negatively affected by his behaviour.

I'm guessing you know the op personally.

Not random at all, but based on MY experience, and as stated in my reply, MY OPINION. Or has that right been taken away now??

No, why would I need to? She admits that her son is a trouble maker.

If I could, I think I would homeschool my son, he's quite shy and bullying does worry me. My daughter not so... she is confident and enjoys school. Good luck.

Oh ... so you have experience, sorry.

Have you been homeschooled or have you you been a homeschooler?

Sorry it didn't work for you or your child. But, it doesn't mean it won't work for the ops.
