    Why?

OP says "i dont want to mess him about as he has been very good to me and has told me if he has anymore properties come up i could have one without hesitation. as far as LL goes he's great. "

Why be confrontational? Why insist on rights just because you have them? Why risk alienating a LL the OP has a good relationship with? Why risk losing the chance of renting another of the LL's properties?

Perhaps the OP should curtsey whenever the LL approaches?

What is the point trying to keep a "good relationship" with a person who has decided to evict him/her by giving the bare minimum notice required by law.

Why would anyone want to rent another property from this LL knowing that he is happy to evict a good tenant.

it's not for us to tell him which to take. Many posters have explained the rights involved. It's now for the OP to choose, not be told what he 'needs' to do.

Only the OP can answer your Qs Paul.

You ought to see someone about all that sighing.

Sorry, I had not see the quote that you repeat and did not realise that you had already decided that enough opinions have been expressed and that the thread was over. I now accept that the moment your pearls of wisdom have been imparted, there is no need for further discussion.

I will trouble you no more.

i keep a good relationship with my LL as he's also a friend, i worked for him for many years before i left to have my child, there is a possability i will go back to work for him when my child starts full time school.
i had an inkling he was going to sell sometime this year, just didnt know when and needed to know exactly where i stand and how long i have to move out.
if another property of his came up i would take it if it was in the right area, although as he's selling this, and i found out a hour or so ago, he's selling another, i doubt he'll be buying any more in the near future.
i dont think he's happy to evict me, if circumstances were different i'm sure he'd rather keep the house and have me stay.
    Skint, but happy (ish):p
