iPhone os4 software bugs (3G & 3Gs)

My boss loaded OS4 onto his partner's 3g last week and it wiped the Contacts folder. He wasn't popular.
I loaded it onto my wife's 3gs as soon as she received it a couple of weeks ago. I have no point of reference for comparison so I'm bound to say that OS4 seems fine. A couple of free apps I've downloaded for her since haven't worked but that doesn't bother me as they were only gimmicky ones, anyway (Zippo virtual lighter, for one).If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

As of yesterday, my 3G has got worse. For some odd reason all my tracks on the iPod have vanished, I synced the phone up to iTunes and found I could not put them back on. Now this morning every single App I paid for will not open, every one crashes.
I spoke with Apple (UK) a short while ago to be told that Apple now longer support OS3 (other words 3G customers) and that there is no planned OS4.1 as of yet as it's "too early".
Oddily enough, and too no suprise, I can send and receive texts, access iTunes to purchase, but making and receiving calls has problems as sometimes the phone cuts off. Pretty good for a £350 phone.
So I think I will take the handset back to O2 tomorrow (when I have more time). I'm not leaving until I either get a refund or another phone.
The Apple forum is riddled with complaints of how the new OS4 has, basically, rendered 3G/3Gs handsets almost useless. It is no joke, every single thread is a complaint.0 -

I couldn't agree more and keep me updated on how you get on with this .0 -
No luck with O2.
I went into the store I purchased the iPhone from. Explained, showed them the issues, they agreed that there is a problem with the OS4. They even said that their own handsets which they updated to OS4 have the same issues. But. . . . O2 will not replace the handset. They said they would send it to Apple to re-install OS4 to then say "but that probably wont cure the problem". So why waste their time and more importantly my time is doing so. I have a iPhone that doesn't work and a lot of money tied up in Apps on that device.
After all the fuss I kicked up, I still walked away with my iPhone and no offer of help from O2, well, apart from "speak with O2 services and tell them your problems, you may get a discount on another handset". That fills me with hope and joy.
Got back home and rang 'Consumer Direct' who inform me to write a letter to O2, throwing the 1979 Sales Of Goods Act at them and demand a replacement. But I have 14 days to wait for a reply, if any, and a non working phone which I need for work. Failing I get no reply from O2 after the letter is sent, then it is passed onto Trading Standards which could last weeks into months.
This will make for a good story for BBC Watchdog. . . . . infact, I may just drop them a email.0 -

Right what you need to do is phone O2, They will have an iPhone department or at least Orange has, you tell them the issue etc they then will transfer you to Apple, Apple will go over the same as O2 basically but they offered me 3 options.
1 - Take it to an Apple store
2 - The send out a box, I send it back, they send me a new one
3 - They send out a new phone, I return mine however they need a £300 deposit.
I went with option 2, When I phoned Orange it seemed I was far from the first who phoned complaining with issues about ios4
I'm gonna have to go option 2. Try0 -

The £300 deposit sounds like Apples way of receiving your faulty phone for them to say it is not faulty and keeping onto your deposit.
Option 2: So I send Apple (UK) the phone via a pre-paid box and they send me a replacement, depending I guess if they can't fix the software issue.0 -

I never thought of it like that to be honest, I suppose just sending it back and wait for another is the best option or go to an apple store, but you need to speak to Apple on the phone first to get a repair number0
