Where To Go In Wales? Recommendations Please!

Hi,
I hope someone can offer some advice...
Me and my partner have decided we'd like to go to Wales in August for a short holiday, 3/4 days....Saying that, despite obviously looking at all the tourist info online about Wales, we are still not sure where the nicest places to go would be?
So is there anyone who can recommend where to stay where we would find some lovely sandy beaches, my partner likes fishing, Id like to see some wildlife and perhaps some tourist attractions. Its not a 'family holiday' so were not worried about keeping any children entertained or anything like that.
We plan just to stay at a B&B or maybe even camp (not my idea) we just want to have some fun and also relaxation...and see some lovely sights.
From what Ive seen Pembrokshire looks nice?
Any advice or tips would be much appreciated! many thanks Alison:)

The whole of Wales is nice
and Pembrokshire is stunning. Solva is really pretty and you can get onto the coastal path and walk for miles and beautiful miles.
It might be better if you did camp because some of the prices for hotels etc will be shocking iin August.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Pembrokeshire is lovely, particularly if you like to walk - there's a coastal / cliff path that winds right the way around it. And I can recommend a lovely little campsite at St Davids, which is on a clifftop with a perfect sea view and a short walk to the beach.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

I'd be interested in that too, we don't go for the big family sites. I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Porthclais isn't far from me Badger!

I'd echo Pembrokeshire of course (!); it really does have everything and the best coastal scenery and beaches in the UK IMHO.
The south coast is gorgeous and Tenby (if you want shops and a bit of nightlife), has stunning, massive beaches and is sooo pretty.
Up here on the north coast between St. Davids and Newport the scenery is wild, beautiful and totally unspoilt with the Preseli Mountains and moors within easy reach and big, lonely beaches.
Plenty of good B&Bs etc. in St. Davids, Solva, Fishguard and Newport.
There are also coastal buses which are fantastic to glimpse little-known coves (or after too much wine at lunch!) and they travel different areas of the coastline - the Strumble Shuttle and the Poppit Rocket and Puffin Shuttle.
Have fun deciding!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -
Any where down the coast from Aberystwyth to St Davids is great. Also, North Wales in lovely too, the Llyn peninsula is breathtaking. Enjoy :-)0

I agree with inkie - north wales is beautiful! On the way to and around Snowdon is lovely. Another place in wales that sticks in my mind from previous holidays is a place called Shell Island

west wales is beautiful. so is north. the hotels/b&b's are expensive. there are quite a few camp sites/caravan parks around.
there is a park called oakwood park-few rollercoasters etc. i haven't been for years but my friend went couple of weeks ago and loved it.
you have folly farm which is meant to be good...not just for kids
as for fishing...it's pretty good along the coast. i always keep tabs on this website..world sea fishing.
if you click on the forums and then on south/west wales everyone thats been fishing those areas will put down whats being caught.
tenby is lovely...nice beach, nice shops and plenty of boat trips to do.
if your looking for more of a coastal break go for west wales. north wales has some nice beaches but in my opinion west wales beats north. x0 -
I love the Gower peninsula. It is beautiful and unspoilt. Because it is all owned by the National Trust there are no hot dog bars or loud music just stunning scenery. there are plenty of campsites and b&b's. It is also very close to Swansea so you can get to theatres cinemas etc if the weather is bad0

To add to the suggestions so far
- apart from Tenby, try Saundersfoot,
- on the north Pembs coast try New Quay, Aberporth, and Cardigan.
- and not far inland from Cardigan, is Cenarth where there is a log cabin holiday centre - with forest trails etc., near a river too so fishing should be available.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
