Ema Problems

We also earn over the £30,810 or whatever, but I've had to pay for the costs of schooling (school clothes, trips, lunches, transport etc.) since they were five years old, it doesn't change that much just 'cos they turn a certain age does it? However, when they turn 16, they are also capable of getting a part time job, and my son respects the £30 for each Sunday that he works far more than he would appreciate £30 from the government each week! He's managed to save a tidy little sum over the last two years between this job and the more casual catering events that he does.
In addition, someone who has just finished a 2 year hairdressing course should really be putting her skills into practice, even if only part time.0 -

do you not read ???
she works part time at the weekend ( Saturday and Sunday ) , attends a nail course 4 days a week to learn something else to offer clients and will soon be doing voluntary work in a local salon one day a week
that means she is 'working' 7 days a week
SHE WORKS PART TIME SO WE ARE TEACHING HER A GOOD WORK ETHIC
its just annoying that the rules changed for ema the day she started the new course yet no one told us !!!!!0 -

In that case she doesn't need tax payers money then does she?Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -

Plenty of people do/have done it, myself included. There was no EMA when I done my A-levels, didn't stop me passing the exams :T
Parents sent the child benefit back for you did they as well?
And I imagine all the other self righteous posters don't accept theirs, or their tax credits, family allowance, all straight back was it?0 -

But she's not actually working (apart from part time) in the sector she's just spent 2 years training for - that was my point.0 -

strangely enough there aren't many jobs about at the moment !!
so she works part time so she has money to spend
1 day a week voluntary in a salon to get experience and four days a week on a nail course so eventually she can offer more to clients and hopefully do better for herself, when she finishes the course in November she will be looking round for a salon job , if theres still nothing about because the job situation could get a lot worse she wants to try and go mobile which is where the driving comes in
shes doing everything she can to better herself but it seems even that isn't good enough
put yourself in this position
you're working in an office ( or somewhere else if you don't fancy office work ) next to another person , you find out that they're being paid £30 more than you for doing exactly the same thing yet if you'd filled a form in the day before you too could get the extra money don't you think you'd feel ever so slightly gutted ???0 -
Sunrise - your daughter is one of many who have learnt that there is money they will not receive. While two years ago, I received a 10% pay increase, and last year a 15% pay increase, this week, I have learnt there is no pay increases this year - but I have a job. My OH has just learnt that he is on a pay freeze as have many in the public sector. Today some mail arrived about Teachers Pensions - not good news I'm sure. My eldest has learnt that the police department he was expecting to be hired with is more concerned about keeping the police officers they already have than hiring newbies, so can expect to be waiting tables for little above minimum wage for a few years more than he expected to get into his chosen profession. All of the above, equates to people losing out on monies due to various cuts being made across the board. Unfortunately, for years, money has been given out left right and centre for various things that are unaffordable to the country, and cuts are being made.
As a parent, I am responsible for supporting my children until they are independent. My son that is off to uni this year, his earnings are his. He is not expected to contribute room and board or anything, as he is saving for his education. He is still dependent upon me having just finished his A levels, and is provided for as such. This is no different to any other year in his life - just as your daughter has been dependent upon you all her life, if she still is, she's not costing you any more - you are still receiving CTC and CB for her I assume? If so, then I would also assume that her part time wages is 'her' money, as surely the CTC and CB are used to help provide for her in terms of clothing, transportation etc.
She wasn't expecting the money in the first place, and didn't start the course in time to be eligible for it anyway. Yep - it sucks sometimes, but EVERYBODY is being faced with cutbacks that we didn't really have alot of notice for.
Be glad that you have raised a daughter that isn't afraid of working for what she gets. She will be far more cautious with her 'earned' money than any handouts that she gets - it's just human nature.
You mention above about 'giving back CTC's, and CB's' - and how many have given that back? Well we don't need to, we are entitled to it. Unfortunately, your daughter was not entitled to EMA under the circumstances - so your comparison is a little off base.0 -
You mention above about 'giving back CTC's, and CB's'
that was not me , I have not once said about giving back child tax credit or child benefit0 -

Unless I've misunderstood you, she sat on the forms from the 2nd until the 28th July rather than getting them signed ASAP so I imagine she's kicking herself!0
