There is some advice on CAB
Not sure on guarantees is mandatory but normally you have some guarantee at least my last car did have 3 months and previous ones I have had too

If the vehicle develops a problem soon after you bought it, you may have a right to return the vehicle to the dealer and get your money back. This would probably need to be within about three to four weeks at the most of buying the vehicle. The problem would need to be fairly major, and you would need to take into account the age, mileage and price of the vehicle when deciding whether it is reasonable to take it back.
also which have a guide too

have you spoken to a VX dealer about this?
I would call them and ask for advice
a back street garage may not have the experience
it may be they can get it fired up and initialise a forced regeneration cycle to clear the DPF
I was reading the other day about folks fitting the Fiat EGR to the 1.9s and it helping avoind DPF issues (the 1.9 CDTI is a Fiat engine)
cars with DPFs are not suited to owners who do mainly short journeys
this is where the DPF issues start to flag up0 -
You seem to be doing the right things, pursue with the garage and see what they offer.
Because the vehicle is second-hand, although in theory your rights under SoGA are the same, it does mean you can't actually expect the vehicle to be '100% perfect' at the time of purchase, only that it's condition is in-line with the price paid, description given and a 'reasonable' expectation for such. What's reasonable is open to huge interpretation, hence why it's not so clear cut! And especially since it had an RAC inspection giving it a clean bill of health at sale! (it would be wise to ask to see this, if you haven't already).
I agree that perhaps the motoring forum would be a better help?

Quickl look on google and it appears to be a common problem
"I hear diesel particulate filters can cause grief, but i should be ok, as im not a school run hopper."

I bought a 2007 1.9 cdti design last August; traded my trusty renault scenic in and got finance for the other 9k! BIG MISTAKE!. The car not been right since day one. I took it back to dealer, no fault showing, so carried on until 7 weeks ago when I got a call from my wife, "car’s broken down". Towed in to local garage, diesel particulate filter blocked beyond recognition. New one fitted costing £666. So, off we go, still not right, breaks down a further two times. Taken into another local garage who has the required tech2 equipment to sort it. Guess what?...Throttle butterflies in manifold are not working..to cut a long story shorter it’s now back with us after all this time and is running well. Well done Bognor Motors, not well done to the incompetant dealer and their service team that sold us this pile of trouble, but more importantly WHAT THE HELL ARE VAUXHALL THINKING with these cars? A people carrier that is generally used by families like mine for general driving duties, I dont want to go out of my way every week to drive like a lunatic on the motorway just to keep the filter clean and the car running, this is 2010 not 1910, can’t we just use a car to go from a to b with no problems? Being in the motortrade for 25 yrs I have had numerous cars, salvage write offs, trade ins, some good some bad but never ever has a car let me or my wife down. The most expensive one I’ve ever bought now has on a few too many occasions. Back to Renault now I think, shame really as it looks great, handles well, leather seats are nice etc., but it won’t do what it’s actually supposed to do.....carry me and my family around in a reliable manner. VAUXHALL you should be ashamed of yourselves, you never developed this car properly. With so many people having problems I am amazed that it’s not all over the papers, watchdog etc.

I've spoken to them via Twitter, just to get a quote really on a new DPF.
With my job, I worked 5 minutes down the road, but now Im working 30 mins away, which is approx 18 miles each way, decided it was time to get a new car.
I decided on the Zafira because of its size (future family planning!) and on the diesel for mpg.
I have the RAC inspection sheet here. It was done 10th Feb 2010.You seem to be doing the right things, pursue with the garage and see what they offer.

I've no idea on how indepth the inspection is...
The inspection sheet also states a spare wheel, but when I bought the car it didn't have one. They gave me one of those cans which fill the tyre and inflate it...
Could anyone move this to the motoring forum?0 -

I know what you mean, but I guess im trying to be optimistic.
The DPF wasn't explained to me by the garage or even mentioned in the book. I didn't even know the car had a DPF! I guess this is my fault, but surely the car should have lasted a bit longer.
Car has done just over 60k miles.
The manual from 2007 has the dpf mebtioned on several pages, 148 being the main one.0 -
You should have called the first time the service light came on really.0

Im guessing you mean the Owners manual? The manual from 2007 has the dpf mebtioned on several pages, 148 being the main one.
In mine it doesn't.
DPF is referred on pages, 40, 144 & 171.
Page 40 refers to the icon lit up when DPF is in action.
This light only appears when starting the car, not while driving...(pre-heating system)0
