Fill as many as possible with water and put on the lids. Place around the walls of the greenhouse, where they will absorb heat during the day and let it out slowly at night.0

Our recycling box mysteriously disappeared when the last people moved out.. and council are being funny about replacing it

So I have to put it all out in tesco bag for life. It's awkward carrying them all down to the end of the drive..

Here's an idea for slug collars for the garden - there will be other ideas on the web site too.
I work in recycling and find your council's reluctance to replace your box odd. Surely they should be encouraging you to recycle more - a letter to your councillor might be in order.0 -
Cheap solar hot water
Cut the bottoms off and thread over your hosepipe. Fill your hose with water and snake across the garden. At the end of the day the water in that hose will be piping hot. Use it to do the washing up. Be careful - the water will be very hot.0 -
For problems with my feet the GP has adivsed 3/4 filling pop bottles, freezing them and then once frozen using to roll under my feet to relieve swelling and pain. So having a couple on the go so one under feet as another goes in te freezer ready for when the first has defrosted.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

They will do exactly this. But what holds good for the greenhouse also holds good in reverse for the fridge. I have all the spare space stacked with 2 ltr bottles of water, so that you will have less heat gain when you open the door, and the motor won't run as long to get the temperature down again.
Another use is if you take the lid off, and cut off the upper part of the bottle, you can use them as cloches. There is a guy on YouTube who has loads of these bottle cloches all over his garden. He is growing nothing but garlic and onions. They will help him and his family to stave off the recession, and will also help him to find out who is friends are.0 -

Yep - definitely gardening! Cut the top off, turn upside down as cloches for individual plants; or take the lid off, cut the bottom off & bury the 'funnel' into the ground next to a plant to direct the water straight to the roots - very good in dry weather; or just take the lid off & put on top of garden canes, either to stop you poking your eyes out when bending over plants to pick stuff or weed, or if the canes are holding up some netting or fleece will stop the cane poking holes in that.
On our allotment this is beginning to be a bit of an eyesore BUT you can put as many as you have on high canes having removed the bottom, or drilled a suitable cane sized hole in it, but leave the cap on - they will turn and rattle in the wind as bird scarers. Taking this one further, on the side of the bottle cut out 3 sides of a rectangle leaving the fourth (vertical) as a 'hinge' and bend the cut-out part outwards to create an impellor blade. Repeat this on the opposite side, and drill an over-cane-sized hole in the base of the bottle, leaving the cap on. This will DEFINITELY spin in the lightest breeze.0 -
Penny jar for all your spare change (I have 1p, 2p and 5p jars) - it might take forever to fill but think of the sense of achievement!"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0

What can't you use them for.
As above, cut the straight bit in two for anti-slug collars. Use the bottom end as a water reservoir in hanging baskets. The top makes a funnel. Leave the bottom on the bottom half for an individual cloche.
Screw the cap to a broom handle. Fit the top end to is. Cut a V-shaped notch in the rim. Use as a fruit picker.
However, the best one is to cut three "doors" around the circumference. Fold the "doors" in or out. Then mount the bottle upside down on a bean cane, and it should go around in the wind as a bird scarer. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
