I think its normal for teenage boys to be curious about some woman's things, including tampons or pants, just to see what they are or what they do - I certainly remember the boys at school messing about with such things purely out of curiosity.

I think the most worrying thing is him taking things and not returning them. Generally teenages will take things but then go to great lengths to hide them, putting them back where they found them and being very secretive about it. I agree with others, he may be keeping them so you DO find out.

It's good that he is seeing a councillor in confidence, and you should be reassured that he has somebody to talk to. It's difficult, but I think the only thing you can do it leave your door open and let him know that you are there if he wants to talk to you about anything whenever he is ready to open up to you.

This is not normal in the sense that most 15yr olds do it however its not sooooo extreme that no other 15yr old has ever done it but it is rare behaviour and he obviously wants to talk about it and be found out as he wouldnt leave the items for you to find.

I would suggest contacting your school nurse (not the school first aider) they are employed by the primary care trust and cover a number of schools, your sons school should be able to give you the number. The school nurse may be able to give you some advice but also would see your son confidentialy on a one to one basis and would be able to refer onto other services in the area as needed.

Regarding the tampons and being brown at the end I have an idea....... your son had such bad earwax and couldn't find a cotton bud so stuck a tampon in there.

Or he tried to smoke it.
