  • Hot tip would also be dont forget to get yourself an octopus card which you can preload to spend for all public transport and convenience stores....its equivalent to londons oyster card and saves you alot of time rummaging for the right coins.

We were in HK last year and the YMCA is fantastic - check it out.

Very clean, Kowloon side, and right on the sea front. Great for watching all the ships etc go past, and also for the fantastic view of HK island. We did not stay there, but we did go in the YMCA and were impressed.

    We loved HK.

I agree: be aware that there are TWO YMCAs in Hong Kong, and the other one is cheaper but a lot less impressive.

  • Hi, I am a British Born Hong Konger and live in a village in Sai Kung, N.T. from November to February every year (Lucky me:))

January is quite pleasant, around 20 degrees, similar to late summer in the UK.

For travelling, make sure you get a Octopus Card for you and your children. I think there's a special tourist one you can get if you show your Passport at MTR(Tube) stations. Buses, tubes, most Mini buses, ferries, even supermarkets and seven eleven all accept Octopus card as payment.
  • For eating, you will find food halls in all major shopping centres, normally on the top floor and bottom floor. It usually gets very very busy around lunch time so best to visit around 11.30am, before the school children arrive to have their lunch.
  • Make sure you don't miss the Hong Kong Museum of History. Admission is free on Wednesdays. http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/History/en/aboutus.php
  • Another tip. If you have a Nationwide Debit Card, take it with you. Use it at all Banks in HK commission free!!
