Looking for mobile phone insurance
Options
Today, i have upgraded my tariff with Orange to a 24-month one and i get to have my fave phone for free. i took it from The Carphone Warehouse. i will be paying £30 per month and £11.99 on top as the phone's insurance which covers almost everything from theft, falls, unauthorised calls, etc. i had to take the insurance to avail of their " 1-month free promo" and because of various thefts in my workplace and because its a high-end phone the temptation to steal IS there. i haven't received the info leaflets and all but i wanted to ask if CPW's insurance sounds "Ok"? is there any better alternative as to where i could get a phone insurance? thank you.

so, you guys think £11.99 is a highway robbery? (read: expensive for a phone insurance?)0

£6.99 or £11.99... you decide. BUT remember to check everything thats covered. Also, decide if you really need any cover at all. For a brand new high end phone you're probably right to insure it for the first six months or so. It doesn't take long the them to become not quite so desirable for theft (I think).
Personally I cancelled mine as soon as I could but I don't use the top end phones.0 -
that's true. i've found prices ranging from £4.99 to £7.99 max. the 1 month is FREE and i think i will be cancelling that and take out a cheaper one that covers what i think are common stuff like theft, unwanted calls, drop, spills, water and the like. comparing the Samsung Galaxy S and the iPhone 4 if i was a thief i would probably go for what is "in trend" and what most people are using or what people really want as a gift.
mine is a 24-month contract so is it practical to have an insurance for the whole 24-months or say maybe "see how it goes"..?0 -
GGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY DO YOU ALL INSIST ON WASTING YOUR MONEY??????????????
Your home insurance will cover your mobile phone as part of the "Away From Home" cover AS STANDARD!!!!!! If you want to make completely sure, you can specify the phone separately and that will cost you, at most, £5 FOR A FULL YEAR!!!!!
The cover provided by your home contents is wider than the cover provided by the mobile phone insurance and it's far cheaper.
Any questions, pm me. JUST STOP WASTING YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Will the home insurance cover the mobile phone as well? is that so? 'cause i havn't took out a home insurance as i live in a hospital accomodation and so far i havn't has any bad experience yet. and if Yes then which company can give a cheap home insurance deal that covers a high-end mobile phone or phones?0

Be careful with putting it your house insurance. My Dog had my sisters phone and our excess was £150 and premiums would have been hiked up by £10 a month, huge waste of money for an LG Renoir!Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).0

It depends on your individual policy. There's downsides to all policies. CPWs is expensive but if you follow the t&c to the letter, they pay out without hassle but always, always read the policy documents. So many people get caught out that way.
Bank insurances tend to be good value for money but not if you want instant replacement. My bank can take up to 28 days to issue a cheque after a successful claim but I'm happy waiting as I can just buy handsets from where I work.
Home insurances can be excellent, especially if you have a separate clause for mobile devices but as I said, always read the document wording before taking out the policy, otherwise you might end up like my sister.Have I helped?
