I found this thread interesting as I'm having to leave my own home soon due to repair work getting done and we need to stay in self catering cottages for a fortnight. One week will be spent in a remote cottage on a hill in the middle of nowhere......I'll be packing books, dvd's, cards and board games.
I kinda feel like it's not a holiday if you bring your own stuff with you, part of the 'experience' is coming up with inventive ways of opening the that tin of beans when the supplied tin opener is rubbish, lol and living in a way that's different to the norm. :rotfl:
Although I need to take my pillow...I'm of an age now when the old bones just don't do too well with change in that dept.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Meals and cooking methods are adapted to suit the available equipment although if something important is missing eg one year we had no bread knife, we go and ask for one. Have been going on self-catering holidays for over 20 years without problems
I'd rather just stick one in the boot than have to go and ask for one - a lot easier. And who would I ask on a Siblu Park in France? Reception? They'd send me to their overpriced shop to buy one. Again, it's not that I don't want to use their stuff, or that they don't have one, just that in my experience, the knives don't cut, the tin openers don't open and I can fit about 6 corn flakes in the cereal bowl.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -

I know...:o:o:o its just its Disneyland Paris and everything food wise is extortionate...I've even bought our 'gifts' already from the Disney store here...they had a sale on and it seemed rude not to.:rotfl:
Because I'm being MSE beforehand we can afford to splash out a little now as much has been catered for.
I've also just quickly washed my little non stick frying pan...thanks for the tips.:D:TDFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Have not ever been self-catering abroad and doubt I ever will so can't help there but think holidays are about new experiences including using different equipment. Isn't it a problem taking so much stuff abroad?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Well my holidays are about having a break, visiting new places and getting a bit of sun, not having a row with a useless bread knife every morning and a rubbish veg peeler every evening when the simple solution is to take one with me.
I don't think a veg knife, a bread knife, a frying pan and a few bowls is much, to be honest, so no, it's not a problem. Very easy, in fact.
Why wouldn't you go self catering abroad? It's great fun, trying all their food.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -

Prefer to holiday in this country as my health is not good and a long journey from the North/East would be exhausting for me. I'm also not good with heat and have found it difficult enough here recently! I don't even own a passport and have no desire to get one.
This is a very beautiful country and I think it's a shame more people don't holiday here and experience it.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I see. Sorry for making assumptions
Don't assume those of us who go abroad don't also holiday here, though. I love days/weekends/short breaks here in the UK.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -

No problem as you weren't to know.
Wasn't getting specifically at you but have spoken to people who are shocked that I don't go abroad and wouldn't dream of holidaying here and wouldn't even consider that a holiday!Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
