My OH thinks it's funny that I take stuff from the kitchen on our hols. What do you take? My list this year is:
1. Equipment
potato peeler
good corkscrew
vegetable knife
stick blender
mini chopper
2. Food supplies (we're away for 2 weeks)
These are things I use a lot but don't want to re-buy as we won't get through a whole one.
Spices: cumin, coriander, chilli, fennel seeds
Herbs: mixed herbs, rosemary
Salt & pepper
Brown sugar
Sauce flour
risotto rice
basmati rice
instant miso soup
tomato paste
tea
coffee
The food shop when we get there will include olive oil, lemons and mayonnaise.
3. Supplies for first night and first breakfast
Frozen bolognese sauce to defrost enroute
Jar tomato pasta sauce
Parmesan cheese
Spaghetti
Frozen bacon
Butter
Tomatoes
Eggs (buy en route)
Ham (buy en route)
Bread (pack frozen)
Cereal
Milk (buy en route)
Jam
Curious about others' lists.

I usually take some coffee so we don't have to buy a jar when we get there.
That's it - everything else I can get in the supermarket when we are there.
We don't drive, so I don't want to lug half the contents of my kitchen cupboard on the train!0 -
Well, indeed! Though it is a pared back holiday cupboard - I have seven types of rice at home!!!!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

I like the list - I'd take some of that too
The only thing I definately cannot be without is HP sauce for the inevitable bacon sarnies - I'd always pack a bottle of this and probably some Marmite, too. (NOT to put on the bacon sarnies, though....)0 -
We're driving to France this summer, and I have a long list too. Heinz Ketchup, HP sauce and Heinz beans are at the top. I know, I know, but we have kids. Absolutely definitely we take knives, peeler, corkscrew, bottle opener, garlic press, masher etc., etc.
Must remember flour for sauce - thanks, OP, would have forgotten that. We're taking the sandwich toaster as well!******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
Many years ago we used to go to Haven near Scarborough for a week.
I found after the first holiday that i just had to take my own non stick frying pan.
I ruined so many fried eggs that stuck solidly to the cheapest pan possible that was in the caravan.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
What I would take would depend on whether holiday was in this country or abroad. Obviously here you can go to supermarket and buyat same prices as at home. We usuually do SC (house) in France and I take some washing tablets (wouldn't use enough in 2 wks to warrant buying any), pegs, tea towel (wrap my knives in), potato peeler, some picnic stuff for meals enroute and while we're away, wipes and TEA!!!0

While we've not been on a self-catering holiday in quite a few years now, we do camp fairly often and that's a form of self-catering (just with less space). I always take one of those miniature toiletries bottles filled with some cooking oil and another with washing up liquid in. I don't like to guess if the places we stay at have basics like those so they're top of my list.

If I went I'd just pack loo roll. All the rest's unimportant if you're on holiday.0

A box of food like yours but always beans, spaghetti, tomatoes.
Plus a sharp knife, my own going on holiday tea towels, and my own frying pan.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
