Ideal icos HE15 condensing boiler-HELP!

Hi
I just had my new boiler (Ideal icos HE15) fitted on Wednesday need some help please. Basically I have the heating and hot water both set on continuous but although the heating works (I leave the thermostat off) the hot water does not heat up! The status is always '0' until I manually change the temperature on the thermostat attached to the hot water cylinder myself, then it changes to 'c' and the burner light comes on. Should I have to do this?? I would've thought that because I have it set to continuous when the hot water runs out it'll automatically fill up and heat again to the selected temperature because its set to 'continuous'. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me some useful help! Getting a bit frustrated now its not even a week old! Thanks! :)

There's something not right - probably with your wiring. Get them back. Why do leave them on continuous? Make the programmer work for you.

Thanks for your prompt reply ziggyman99. I thought something wasn't quite right! I leave it on continuous as I'm home usually all day and have 2 children so I need hot water 24/7 really and its less confusing! So is my understanding of how it should work correct then? I'll definitely be getting them back now. Thanks again.

Yes your correct. If the programmer is on the "all day" setting then the boiler will come on when there is a demand for heat from either the cylinder stat or the room stat. A motorised valve or valves then directs the hot water from the boiler to either the rads or the cylinder or both at the same time.

  • is your boiler a combi if so when my boiler would not produce hot water when heating was off who wants heating now its was found to be the divertor valve and it would not divert the water to the taps had to have the heating on to get hot water. waste of gas

Not a combi. The clue is in title - HE15. Thats 15kW. If you had a 15kW combi it would take a week to fill a bath. ;)

thanks for info just put down that my combi did this, yes did get it fixed but it has packed up for good now. reqs new pcb and poss main fan, cost to have the parts and have it fixed is not worth it so putting in a new remeha combi, as old boiler 15 years and it has been a pain of late.
hopefully it will be in before it turns cold

Unfortunately Ideal boilers eat pcb's like I eat shredded wheat. They really are awful boilers.
