Most often the sound errors on these boards were [ weird ] not related to sound drivers themselves but to a bad install of chipset drivers, which in turn could not find the sound to allocate drivers to, yet in this case you say there are no errors on your chipset drivers.
I have no idea, and nor does Mr Google know what these [ ksclock.ax,ksdata.ax, ksinterf.ax,ksprexy.ax,ksvpint.ax ] are, any one else know ?
Your next step is to discover what Brand and Model your MOBO is, see donnie #31 post. Knowing which of the many, might lead to download of at least more up to date drivers than the ones you have for example the FIC version of your chipset
- I assume you are on the net , are you ?
- have you updated everything from the Microsoft site ?
- the missing bit is what you list as ' other devices ', and is usually the SMBus
Have a go at this .. .. .. forget the printer for now
- right click on both your (1) other devices and (2) PCI mutimedia audio device and hit the delete button, when it asks say yes delete.
- shut the machine down [ not re-boot ]
- press the start button, catch it on F8 go into safe mode, touch nothing
- - put the driver disk in the drawer than shut the machine down [ not re-boot ]
- - press the start button and allow it to boot normally
Has it reallocated IRQ's and found the bus or sound chip ?
the motherboard is asus A7V8X-MX-EAYZ
ive got the printer working so just the sound now- i tried your tip and yes it does recognise new hardware found, but it is unable to install it- it keeps asking to locate the files. on the postive side the install has not deleted anything.0 -
You can try this Driver.0

You can try this Driver.
thnaks but no luck im afraid ive tried installing, uninstalling and reinstalling but still no good.
what happens is it seems to install ok, then requests to restar computer (which i do) then in restart it does recognise new hardware- it then goes throgh the process of finding a driver but is unable to. ( i have tried internet and also SE and w2k_xp as search options).
finally it says no codec driver is installed.
on the device manager tab is it showing as ?other devices- PCI multimedia audio device.
also i cant get the volume control to open up0 -
If you do have to re-install, don't forget to download PC Inspector file recovery. Its free, and is surprisingly good at recovering files from a formatted drive. It saved my skin a few times when I was running Win me, as I managed to get family photos and vids.0

Is there any particular reason why you want to stick with 98SE?0

Right so it's now found the sound chip, and hopefully the bus lane to which the chip is attached.
Why even that old an O/S can't find its own codecs, gawd knows.
Don't know how >> this << will go into 98SE but it certainly will have all the codecs. Watch what you click on, click on direct download 1
After installing re-boot, see what happens. It now won't be the codec that stops it working !

But why 98SE, when there are various, more up to date alternatives? I can understand it if you have specific programs that will only work with 98SE. But if that isn't the case I would use the machine to experiment with more modern builds such as Ubuntu, depending on the specification of the machine. XP is also possible.0 -
yes! finally the sound is working.:j
i tried the drivers disk one last time it came to those files [ ksclock.ax,ksdata.ax, ksinterf.ax,ksprexy.ax,ksvpint.ax etc. ] i pressed skip on of them (about 20 in all) and on came the sound.
So thanks for the help most of it was most useful- and yes I am moving to xp very soon. I have a laptop with vista on and I personally find win98se much easier to operate .0 -

personally i fully agree with this, unless you have some specific programs you have to run, having a system running a operating system which is so far out of date with no support from microsoft or other software companies seems a little strange
especially when you have the possibility of a up to date operating system such as ubuntu which can be gotten for free and which has a massive amount of free programs availibleDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0
