Using Old Pillows In New Ways?

Hi All
I did a search for this but couldnt really find any answers:
What do you do with old pillows?
When I say old I'm not meaning years old - they are only a few months old, hollowfibre ones but I like to change them fairly frequently - I would say its all to do with dust mites but tbh its because I like really firm pillows so buy them cheap and often
However I now have 4 nearly new pillows that I'm sure must have a use somewhere around the house.
I've put a couple of them back on the bed for display purposes and that looks quite nice and luxurious but I've no idea what else to use them for. I thought other people have had had the same 'problem' at some point - pre MSE they went in the bin but thats not very OS I'm sure.
Any ideas?

They'd make good cat or dog beds - if you have no such pets, or if you find yourself with a surplus of pillows again then any animal shelter would be glad of them.
You could reuse the stuffing somehow. I'm thinking along the lines of either a draft excluder, like a v.long sausage which goes along the bottom of a door, if you're handy with a needle and thread. Or you could make a sort of pouffe/ bean bag with the stuffing and put it in a child's room. That'd use up quite a few pillows I'd imagine.0 -
Oooo... a pet rescue place, I've thought of there before for older bedding...April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500

Just to get that little bit more use out of them after they go all thin and a bit lumpy, double them up into 1 pillowcase - you've got a firmer pillow then for a while.
Or sew 2 together around the seams and cover with a washable or wipeable fabric & you've got a great pad for kneeling on in the garden

Fantastic ideas on here allready - also I think the salvation army would be gald of them. Whichever place you decide to donate to (once you've used as much as you can at home, lol) do be sure to phone first to make sure they can use them.

my gran used to use the stuffing from old pillows for her knitted toys......that she used to make.....
plus it was also cheaper for her to buy a new pillow (if she didnt have any older ones left ) than to buy.. the stuff they sold in the wool shop
plus when she used to make pin cushions etc for the fetes....Work to live= not live to work0 -
My pillows go as follows
To the cat, she doesnt use the different cat beds we have tried but a pillow covered with an old towel. (if the towels not there she wont lie on it, silly thing!)
To the beanbag, i unstuff pillows and re-stuff the bean bag as the beans get squashed.
On the bed - before they go really flat i double up them in a pillowcase so there are 3 to a bed.
For the birds, i throw scraps outside for nesting material.
For cushions in the lounge, I fold them in half once they are flattened and bung them in a cushion cover.
Ive decided to make a door sausage and never thought of using the pillows, was going to use carrier bags!0 -
i always buy hollow fibre ones and replace once a year , and in that year i boil wash then 3 or 4 times then tumble dry ( sorry not very O/S but i hate the thought of dust mites). but in the past really thin ones i have folded over and used for lounge cushions. so i put them in an old pillow case and the children use them outside in the summer.hubby sometimes uses them when working on the car under his knees.
but i love the idea of cats beds, we have 4 cats and they all love sleeping on our pillows at night, so hopefully this might solve that.0 -
I think the dog's home will take them - when I went the other week they had a notice for old bedding for the winter months and I think old pillows will be warmer.became debt free December 060

Our local freecycle often has people posting requesting old bedding etc for their dogs or for local rescue centres they are involved with. If you had no use for them at home you could try offering them on there and probably someone will collect them too.0

I told my neighbour yesterday to make a seatbelt pad out of an old cushion, her little girl's neck rubs on the seatbelt in her new car seat, So I said, get an old pillow, pull some of the stuffing from it, stuff it in a square of material, stick/sew a fastening on it, wrap it around the seat belt, Voila, no more sore neck!!!Sig ah Sig Ahhh0
