There is an interesting article in the latest issue of Home Farmer (love that magazine... anyone else read it?) on growing your own wheat on a small scale. A plot 20 square metres will yield enough wheat to give you 25 loaves.
I think barley can also be grown on a small scale, and definitely amaranth and quinoa can be.
Would love to see the reaction on the allotment if we decided to try growing wheat :rotfl:R.I.P. Bart. The best cat there ever was. :sad:0 -
We also love Home Farmer magazine - can't remember where I bought it though, as we have only had the one issue, so really hoping I can find it again next month. There is so much to read, and lots of great advice! I was also struck by the idea of growing wheat - but where would I buy the 25kg sack of "Kingdom" seed that she recommended??? I had a look at their forum as well through their website.December GC: £3500

Me likee that "Home Farmer" magazine. Me envious of people who have enough land to be able to get stuck in...:(
Oh well...I'll just have to pick up what hints I can from their Forum - at least one can read that bit for free online:D0 -
The only retail outlet for Home Farmer that I know of is WH Smith.
I tried googling Kingdom wheat, and found out that the company that bred it is Syngenta. I can't find out where to buy it, though. I was going to email them to ask, until I read this. Although Kingdom does not appear to be GM, I don't want to support a company that is involved in GM and GURT crops (that latter of which stands for Genetic Use Restriction Technologies, which "enables biotech companies to retain control and ownership over their products even after they have been sold to farmers").
Ceridwen, are you able to get on the list for an allotment where you are?R.I.P. Bart. The best cat there ever was. :sad:0
