Is anybody doing sq foot gardening ? is there a UK site for it ? I think next year that's what I will do. I've had tatties int he same spot two years running and cant do that again, so will use the space & put my big one-ton builders bags in there, and try more intensive sq foot gardening inside the bags.
I would also like a site that tells you how to work out how many tatties one person needs per year, and the same for onions etc.

I think Ceridwen does sq ft gardening. I know that I found out about it because she posted the link a year or two ago.
On the website there's a gallery of peoples sq ft gardens and they're very inspirational. Shows that a productive garden doesn't have to look utilitarian and can look very beautiful.

I think that's definitely the way I'm going to have to go next year. Raised beds will be easier to keep the chickens off and I've discovered that our garden is more rocks than soil, so digging beds is tricky (hubby broke the pick axe hitting a rock when we dug a hole to bury Agatha the other week).

This looks good. I think Harlow Carr in Yorkshire did it, will try and find more info.

Good morning all, am having a chaotic day but popped in while bacon is cooking. I did the sq foot gardening this year and it has worked well. Just tried one bed for now. At least you can mark the beds and know whats what in each square, Did well with parsnips and onions, beans and then popped a couple of tomato plants in later when the beans had gone - they didnt get the blight either! Now have turnips and kale, swiss chard and last of the radishes in there. Looks nice to which is a bonus. Also put a pile of tyres in plot with spuds in but where disappointing, however the triffid courgette did well in the other tyres and is still producing. the courgette plant seems to have plenty of soil in the tyres and has been very happy there. Right off to take dgs for injections while Ds has a job interview!

I've tried square foot methods here as my garden is weenie but it takes a lot of organising and I tend to lapse back after a month or so into *ooh theres a space chuck anything in* gardening :D

I also plant closer still than the square foot methods say and it seems to work ok.

I'd say its a good method for organized people which sad to say I'm not :rotfl:

Frugaldom does it, has pics on her forum and threads on it.
    And shes in Scotland too.

I did try it a few years ago but my non veg plants weren't playing by the rules, daffs kept poping up, things self seeded, so I gave up:cool:
