That would pretty much stop him in his tracks - very small learning curve for the OP and I'm sure, if it's too much to figure, someone on eBay has one for a couple of quid :-)

Unless he's doing as I suggested in another thread, and logging traffic on the LAN etc. I guess the OP could then look at an SSH tunnel or something, out via a small VPS to ensure that between local box and internet the traffic is totally encrypted. This wouldn't avoid a hardware keylogger though.

An easier explanation, btw, is that the friend you're telling things to is relaying the info back to him.

You're not using a wireless keyboard are you? Most of those are unencrypted, so very easy to log.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

There's more than one friend who he seems to be knowledgeable about....
Also, one is in Australia and would never email him anything I've chatted to her about.

But if she uses HTTPS for her webmail, he might as well be reading Swahili :rotfl:

Of Course, if he is *really* smart he could drop a proxy in, use renegotiation and beat that too!

When all else fails, you can drop back to using old fashioned codes at each end :-) Fbzrgvzrf vg'f gur fvzcyr guvatf gung xrrc abfrl o*tt*ef bhg!

So..... I can download something called Tor for free and it'll disguise all my emails / webmail etc without me having to do anything new? (Sorry, this is all waaaay above my head!)
    I use google chrome.

TOR won't help - disregard it. That's only any good for hiding your origins from a remote site/machine. It may be worth doing a simple scan with Shields Up (http://www.grc.com/intro.htm) and look for any open ports. You did not mention if your OP was working or not - but he may be accessing the machine remotely. Shields up will probably show any unusual open ports and may be worth the five or so minutes a full scan will take.

Now that the paranoia fire is burning brightly have you considered that he may have hacked the FB a/c of your friend(s), if so he gets your messages for free.
Right where did I put that petrol .......

I use a variety of email/message options, and so do several of my friends... so he'd have to have hacked into them all to get 100% of the data.
After responses from this forum I've chosen to avoid my yahoo email account and use googlemail instead :)

I've also suggested to a few friends that they might like to do the same (if they're at all concerned).
