Your favourite decade for cars

Some 80's cars Granada for example, but i think the late 80's/90's were the best years for everyday cars that could still be worked on by a man that can.
Incidentally some 80's designs are still going, Toyota still make the 70 series Landcruiser and sell them virtually unchanged in good quantities to countries where a breakdown might mean your life, if it aint broke etc.0 -
90's the escort cosworth era, prob because as a 17yr old I desperately wanted one! and getting to drive one of the mcRae scoobys just made my lust for speed worse, still haven't calmed down

got to be the 80's for me, mk2 cav calibre/sri, astra gte 16v, mk3 cav GSi are my 3 favourite cars of all time, I like the opel monza too. not really into fords but the s1 rs turdo and the faster sierras were fantastic cars. I've had at least one of each generation bmw 7 series except the current one and the e23 on metric tyres was my favourite to drive, I would bet money the e23 745 would kick the !!!! off an e65 745 down a back road today and still have a comfy ride.0

The current decade does it for me. Cars are just getting better looking.
The 80's and early 90's has to be the worst period so far. So many mundane, boring cars.

Boring by todays standards yes. But the 80's cars that replaced their older models were a huge step forward. For example the old Ford Granada being replaced by the Granada Scorpio with ABS as standard across the range, the Mercedes W123 being replaced by the W124, the newer Escort, Mondeo and Cavalier. The man without a signature.0 -

I was going on looks. When I first saw a picture of the 90's face lift Scorpio, I thought it was a joke.0 -
Basil agrees with you...
:T:T:T Brilliant,
It's pretty obvious that there are an awfull lot of nostagic folks out there, look at the numbers of 60s, 70s cars that are getting renovated.
But I'll tell you what, guess how many would dare try to use one as a daily driver.
There will also be a new toyota or honda etc sat in the drive.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Correct..
The best decade for cars as far as I am concerned was the last decade of the last century, ie 1990 to 2000; no rust, that was cured by then, no nasty added bits to go wrong.0 -
Agree. Also the last decade where cars could fixed with a spanner, not a computer.

Far too many safety standards now, and not many of them for the aid of the driver. Think the 90's had it just right. Air bags and crumple zones. Now, ridiculous 'low friction' tyres fitted to cars to increase mpg, electric power steering giving zero driver feedback, over zealous ABS, pedestrian safety bonnet system. All adds to the weight and nothing to the driving pleasure. Where's my elise gone?0
