For those who try it good luck with trying out SIP phone.

The best thing about Phonegaim anyway is the ability to add all of your accounts to it. I also believe it has more of a future than trillian because it's opensource, but that's just me, you may like trillian better. I don't think trilllian can be turned into a phone though.

  • Have you (or anyone else) any thoughts on a decent microphone/headset model or supplier, for a novice?
Get a noise cancellation one, reputedly the best are the Boom, Bose and plantronics, but can be expensive.

    This Sony seems ok

and a cheap Plantronics one for £12.99 from http://www.shop.bt.com/invt/ccm104, unfortunately out of stock, but should give you some ideas to start.
    Moi....? ;)

I have been using Skype for a while now and the sound quality is superb, better than a landline. SkypeOut is reasoably priced but works best calling to countries with good Internet and telephony infratsructures. Certain places where even local services are unreliable may not work brilliantly with it. There is a good upgrade cycle though and for pc-to-pc calsl it is untouchable simply because of the number of users on it. Pc-to-phone also good. If people want more flexibility etc. can look at vonage though this is not cheap.
