    I have personally installed System X concentrators and Megastream exchange equipment.

    I'm pretty much certain that all the upgrades from the old mechanical Strowger exchanges were done after the privatisation. Certainly all the ADSL work was long long afterwards.

    Plus they were not "given" the old GPO network they bought it although admittedly at a knock down price. I'm no great fan of BT but anybody harking back to the "good old days" of Post Office Telephones must have the strongest set of rose tinted glasses it's possible to obtain because compared to today the service and pricing were abysmal.
